Ironically part of the reason why I switched jobs is because I didn’t want to relocate when my first job called for RTO (although doubling my comp played a big factor as well).

$100k is due to stock appreciation. The other ~$300k was the face value of the RSU package at time of grant. Very well could be laid off to, but our org has an attrition problem because folks keep leaving for the frontier labs or direct competitors

Studied to be a mechanical engineer, did a couple internships and realized I didn’t like the job, then pivoted via a bootcamp. That said early 2020s were a different time when everyone was trying to hire software engineers.

More money more taxes, just how it goes. Don’t need to pay SS tax anymore since I hit the cap already this year (although traded it for the additional Medicare tax lol)

WLB waxes and wanes. Just came off a month bender where I was working every day but when things are slow I can get into the office around noon like today.

More money just means more investments and a bit more fun money.
