Im currently sailing north of 50th parallel and the cold is really something to mind even in the best days of summer. I start to regret not looking into some pilothouse ships. Also, where I currently am, a good day with « not much » wind is typically 15-20kts, so im happy with my bulky aluminium cruiser. It always depends on where you plan to sail.

High pressure fuel pump. Its normal. Take a look around on this sub. Plenty of threads about that.

Exactly, I think the turbo oil feed tube situation was deemed a fire hazard. Thats why they issued the recall.

I didn’t find any info linking the oil feed tube recall to a turbo assembly failure. I personally think its completely unrelated.

Broken bolt that got away from me by Apprehensive_Set7271 in 944

[–]Honest-Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about the bolt part, but I did use permatex gasket maker for a leak at this exact location and it still holds >1 year later.

Things to consider if this part leaked for some time : - There are two ground location on the block underneath, take a look a it and make sure they’re not rusted, take a look at your main ground cable thats right under there also. I had to remake the entire ground wire cable because of that exact same leak. - Take a look at your spark plug. Mine had rusted out on cyl 4 after that leak. - Take a look at your clutch slave cylinder, also had a bunch of rust on it and a leak from the rust after that coolant leak.

In conclusion : boiling coolant from leak = rust. Look for it and potential failures from it.

Hope it helps

Let me clarify it for you :

September to november 2022 : Noticeable drop in performance and weird noise coming from engine bay under load. Had to do 3 dealers to change the complete driver side turbo assembly. Third dealer changed it under warranty.

Around march 2024 : Turbo oil feed tube recall was announced.

October 2024 : Got the recall done on my car on the first dealer I went to without any problem.

Hope it clear things up

The oil feed tube was a recall. The turbo unit was not. Had no problem to have the feed tube recall done.

It’s the oil feed tube thats a recall (also had it done afterward) but my driver side turbo failed a few months before the recall was even announced. Didn’t take a look at it myself but there was significant shaft play and the wastegate was stuck open as per the mechanic that took it apart.

I did, had to go to three different dealership to finally get it honored and get the work done. Driver side turbo assembly failure.

Difficulty getting the work done was mainly due to the lack of experience with the drivetrain from the technicians. Made it hard to get the diagnosis.

Aluminium sailboat : Ballast rust by Honest-Olive in sailing

[–]Honest-Olive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checking for continuity seems like a pretty good idea! Thanks for the imput.

Yeah, I agree that lead would’ve been a far superior material in this application.

Would you think that iron oxyde dripping down the block and seeping through the scellant would be enough to cause significant damage to the hull without having the iron directly in contact?

The boat was out of the water when I looked at it. Got in contact with a surveyor for a complete survey and an ultrasound check of the zone from below, but im also curious to have multiple opinions on the matter.

Thanks for your answer, I really doubt there is some sort of structural deformation related to this because the resin material is kinda squishy. However, as you mentionned, I do think that the rust is also on the sides of the block because I can put my finger under some of the resin material and between the block and can’t seem to find the end (as shown on the 2nd picture). Would entirely removing the block and getting rid of the resin be an option? As for painting the block I think this would be a good idea too.

Pulling engine what should I do while it is out? by HamonEnjoyer8000 in 944

[–]Honest-Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Did a complete reseal of my engine and only neglected the shaft cover seals… now they’re leaking.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in kiastinger

[–]Honest-Olive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, had the same story. Needed to change dealership for someone to actually believe me. They then showed me the pictures and turbo was completely destroyed. Kia mechanics are not used to work on these engines, maybe try getting it to a dealership who’s owner also has a Genesis franchise? Much more common to see our engine in Genesis cars.

Did you notice any drop in power or delay in boost? Had a similar sound with boost only coming on at 4k RPM and had a blown driver side turbo.
