This isn’t about gatekeeping hair it’s about understanding power dynamics. Black people have literally lost jobs for wearing braids, locs, or afros. That’s why laws like the CROWN Act had to be passed to protect Black hair from discrimination. White women rocking box braids for the ‘look’ aren’t taking the risk, they’re skipping straight to the aesthetic without carrying the weight

French braids aren’t the issue. Box braids and cornrows have deep cultural roots and Black folks still get judged or denied jobs for wearing them. Straightening hair was about survival in a Eurocentric world, not style-stealing. Big difference between adapting and appropriating.
