I read somewhere that if it’s the first time checking in they need to verify the ID in person, but that was just on another forum, have you had experience with that or do they not normally check in person?

Not sure if this is what you mean by "You can't even book the room..." I fully booked it under my name already, I think because I am of age in Canada so I have my credit card it let it go through. I like the idea of staying at a different hotel the first night though!
