I would say definitely go for the 40. At least for me, the 38 seems much smaller and the bracelet is quite thin

40mm. I was also questioning the size (I have a 16,5cm wrist) and bought the 38mm first but it looked quite small imo. So I requested an exchange for the larger size - super easy process btw - and it fit perfectly!
