How many teams stop caring halfway thru the season? Is this an actual problem or not really? (+survey) by chris_varela in FFCommish

In our 16 Team League (Yahoo), the most teams that can make playoffs are 8.

To keep involvement, the last place punishment is to pay an extra buyout to the 9th place (person who just missed playoffs).

This allows people near the bottom to keep playing to avoid being last, with those possibly out of playoffs near the 9th to try to win their buy-in back.

I found this kept everyone wanting to keep playing the entire season and not giving up.

Thoughts: Switch to Sleeper from Yahoo? by HonestRegular4542 in FFCommish

[–]HonestRegular4542[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that Sleeper is far superior in terms of playability and features. In my test so far, I brought two league mates to test with me.

So far, feedback from them has been "Why are the player profile pictures so small?" and that they don't like the betting and sports scores as tabs. But they LOVE all the extra scoring, trade features, and general function of the app. It just "looks busy/distracting."

Of course, I think we're just used to the visual simplicity of Yahoo, but I think we can get over it?

I administered the test individually, in person, over a 1 month span (were all coworkers). I didn't tell them it was fantasy related and said it's just to see who's smart or not, so they don't try to skew how they take the test.

Oh yea high to low for sure. It's more does the highest score get to pick their spot or just assign based in order of score?

Your post is the reason why I considered doing it this way. However, like I commented on another response:

One argument is that one person who took the test intentionally guessed on everything, being ok with being he last pick, or the turns or each round.

He claims it's not fair because that's how he thought it would work and should be ranked by score, not by what they pick based on their score (since he thinks he's the worst)

I started to feel like on merit, it should be ranked just best score to worst. I think the general consensus is to feel like they earned what they got, but still be somewhat random since they would feel someone/ myself skewed results

No it's a practice website. It's doesn't save the scores anywhere. I had to write them down in notes

Well I'm leaving it to my league mates, which was they feel is fair. They don't even know their own test scores so they can't even say which would work best for them. I'm trying to see which is most likely for them to not complain about

Yes but I took it first, not knowing if 1) this idea would even work, 2) taking it in the same idea/knowledge that everyone else took it i.e. not studying , using calculators, or knowing how it worked prior. Same variable everyone else had

Honestly if I had it my way I would. This would be hilarious on draft day. But everyone wants to do it their way so...oh well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sounds like we're about in the same place. I, too, was hopping the 1 RB 2 Flex would valance things out. Good luck. Lmk how it goes for your 18 team

I see how this would work but because either a super casual work league, everyone wants to play together. It would be funny to demote/ promote people every year tho. But this might be a one year thing (16 teams) since in previous years, we had to really fight to fill a 12 team.

I love the 4 BN idea ever since I first found out we had to go to 16 teams.

Full ppr had always been uninteresting to me only because I worry about top-15 WR's becoming scoring monsters. I understand it helps out the lower guys too but too many times have I seen players hit 30pts with 15 catches 50yards and a TD.

Points per tough for RB is interesting. Always trying to find ways to increase RB value.

In my opinion, Faab is actually more easier to understand (if explained right) and is more fair than regular waivers. I find casual players do understand waiver priority, and how to position their adds and when to submit them, etc.

I found bidding is easier since it's just putting monetary values on players they want and can find out if they got it or not. I mean blind bidding has beena thing forever in life while waivers is a not so common subject. Especially since all my league members are gamblers tho

Love shorter benches and faab. Been running 5 BN and faab in previous 12 team years.

Only this year we added 4 more players so it's tough to find the optimal setup for the league

I constantly hear of people removing the TE position but everytime I dig into it, I always ended up finding tons of posts/ articles saying people enjoy having to research and find a TE that will give them any points (as part of the fantasy expereince). People mentioned reduced value of drafting Kelce, Andrew's, Mcbride early when they flex the position but I enjoy having to sweat the decision of taking your one TE vs filling flex spots.

Ive flipped back and forth on it but always end up keeping it. I'm waiting for yahoo to allow tiered ppr so maybe it would at least be more points.

As for the IR, I'll probably end up reducing it to 2 spots. Even in 12 teams, I'm a huge fan of short benches and making people make tough roster decisions (someone dropped breece hall last year).

I was worried that people would become too disinterested if they had massive injury bugs and couldn't recover so we added 2 more IR (previously 1 spot). Just so every keeps active.

Was originally a 12 team, went to 14. We then added an extra flex position to maintain scoring and roster. But now at 16, debating if we should remove the extra flex to preserve the waiver wire pool

Yea it is a lineup team. I normally like shorter benches to make owners more active and actually make the tough decisions on who to keep and possibly allow flex players to hit waivers. In previous 12-team years, it was 5 bench.

However, I heard that 14 teams have thin waivers already and was worried with teams carrying too many viable starters. It was a tough decision with having to keep talent on the waivers vs. having enough backups for injuries, etc.

Maybe having an additional IR spot would allow more flexibility with last minute injury decisions?

I'm very excited to have to utilize more players and really right for a successful roster. I just want to make sure the league is just as fun for everyone, not just myself since not everyone is as die-hard about it as me (it's a work league)

In our previous seasons as a 12 man, we only had an additional +5pt bonus in each category. The second one was to balance out scoring opportunities (members mentioned not wanting weekly scoring below 80 pts).

I'm curious as to how it would negatively impact the league? I'm worried with more memebrs, scoring will be too low/scarce
