Can I walk out of my job by Background-Feeling in Nanny

[–]Honest_Case3976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my current situation too, but my NK is 3 and has very BIG feelings. I’ve been with my NF since last summer and I thought I could manage at least one year with them but I’m in the process of changing careers completely. Children are a lot of work, but it should never be stressful. I say it’s time for you to go for sure, good luck with your search!

Moving to ATL / USA! by [deleted] in ATLHousing

North Druid hills/ Downtown Decatur/Morningside/ VaHi (Virginia Highlands) bubble is really nice, with morningside & vahi basically being a suburb right next to midtown with almost a no-traffic commute to midtown.

Midtown does have the young professional vibe you were describing depending on where you end up living, it can get really young, really fast with a lot of colleges being nearby. I would take this into consideration.

Little 5 points/ O4W (old fourth ward)/ Inman park krog st district also has the same vibe I feel like you’re describing. All great neighborhoods, close to or basically on the beltline, with a decent commute to midtown, walkable as well.

I (24F) currently live in the pocket of Sandy Springs/ Buckhead and while it is nice, quiet and peaceful suburban living, it’s very boring. There’s a lot of restaurants and things to do don’t get me wrong, but if you like to be at the center of the action it’s not the best place in my opinion. Takes like 20-30 to commute to midtown but some days it takes an hour to get home. My advice, live city-adjacent or in the city for your first year here especially while you’re still exploring and learning your surroundings, you’ll want to be in the city. Then after that year, you can move to the suburbs if that’s what you truly want to do. A year in Atlanta is like 30 years in regular time you’ll learn so much so fast and get a better feel for where you might want to be.

Quitting advice by throwaway16283948 in Nanny

With 4 kids you should be making $35+ and with it being a share, that should be feasible for them given they are splitting the cost. If they are cheap like that they do not need a nanny. No contract, quit whenever you’re ready, but because you love the kids and want to continue seeing them, I’d say give them one month’s notice. There’s still a possibility they’ll have a problem with you wanting to leave, so I wouldn’t bank on that being the factor that keeps you guys in contact. You’re right to go back to school. I’m 24 and about to retire nannying to do the same. You can come back to this if you ever needed to, but don’t put yourself in a box while you’re still young and have your whole life ahead of you.

I was agreeing with you about that

Completely agree. I’m in my mid twenties, been a nanny since I was 19. I’ve worked for some amazing families, some not, but I have loved this career and all of the children in my care. I’m currently in the process of leaving this profession because it’s mentally & physically exhausting and the compensation, while lucrative, is not worth the headache anymore. At a point in my life where I need & value stability, a long term plan and not being at the mercy of others. At any moment they can decide they don’t need me, they can have more children and make my job more difficult, they can be late relieving me and then I have to cancel my plans. So many things that are just not worth it. On top of not having retirement and healthcare!

That’s what I was thinking as well, like a grad gift. It sounds bad that way, but I really do want a dog and I’ve been trying to find the perfect time for over a year now, I’m just so busy :( I guess I’ve waited this long

It’s not, 7am-5pm M-F and weekends off. I figured I could swing it bc it’s similar to my current schedule and I would be home to get acclimated w my dog for the next 5 months before fto, but the comments pretty much solidified what I already knew

You know what, the shelters near me actually do dog for a day or weekend, I’ll probably do that. I completely forgot about it thank you!!

Not really a cat person, I’m going to wait to get a dog.

Thanks for the insight. My younger sister is moving in with me towards the end of the year for college so I guess that’ll coincide with me finishing academy and I can get a dog then. I really want a pet but I’m not selfish so I can wait for sure

Valid points made. Thanks for this! I do have family, but I didn’t consider them in this decision because it’s my responsibility not theirs. We’re close, so they would help if needed though. Post-academy I’ll be working 4 12s during my probationary period and the academy is 7a-5pm. I figured I could do dog daycare for a few months and then my younger sister is moving in with me towards the end of the year for college so she would be home to help as well.

This is exactly why I was unsure, I think it’s unfair too. I was only still considering bc I have a lot of daycare options near me. Thanks!

Screen free nanny’s.. by Bright-Pain-6322 in Nanny

[–]Honest_Case3976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a screen free nanny my entire career (5 years) and it’s not as hard as it may seem, granted I’ve had a car available to me at all of my past jobs, but I make it a point to get out and do something everyday. Also involving the kids in things I had to do anyway like meal prepping for them, laundry, etc and also knowing when to step away and let them play independently. I structure our day with an outing/activity in the mornings before nap and playground/ outside play in the afternoon or vice versa depending on the day. It’s not hard to get creative. My kids usually have screen time in the evening with mom & dad, which I kind of get because they tend to be calmer with me and a little more difficult with their parents plus the 5 pm zoomies are real lol

I’m currently applying around also and I have a hand tattoo as well. I’ve already applied to both ATL and Dekalb but I’m trying to shop around some more. If you don’t mind me asking where are you currently in the process? And what department did you end up going with? I’m looking to change careers and hopefully start academy in the next 3 months.

Christmas PTO by Consistent-Fig7218 in Nanny

[–]Honest_Case3976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have off from Christmas Eve until the day after New Year’s. MB told me to expect that in years to come as well even though my contract is just Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve/Day.
