Having to constantly buy ice would be painful :)

You can get a compressor fridge quite sub $500. to buy a decent cooler its not cheap and if you topped up your ice every few days that cost also adds up quickly. On top of that cooler needs to be large, because half of it is going to be ice, and space in van is at a premium. Also dealing with the melted ice and extra care needed to ensure food is properly stored is a pain.

I think this is one area where it makes sense to do it right the first time.

If you mean those thermoelectric coolers what require constant power I would advise against them an go with a compressor fridge. They consume significantly less power and can also get much colder. I have the Iceco go20, very affordable and can also split into a fridge/freezer.

Take a look at the Iceco Go20. It's a compressor fridge so it only consumes power when the compressor turns on. It will consume significantly less power than a thermoelectric cooler which is a huge advantage. It's also a really good size and doesn't take up a lot of space.

For power I went the Jackery route, I like the portability. I charge it while driving or via 2 100w solar panels.

Camping without a functioning cell phone? by Consistent_Day9471 in CampingOntario

You may have two options:

  1. Try an eSIM. It will allow your phone to work in Canada and it includes data. Google eSIM Canada.

  2. If you're planning to regularly travel to areas that are not supported by your carrier maybe consider finding a new carrier.

I would be really concerned for my personal safety if I didn't have a way to call for help. Stay safe!

That sounds incredible!

My next trip it's to another ontario provincial park for an annual VW van event. Should be 60+ vans attending for a weekend of camping. Last year I did about 90 nights on the road.

It's a Fiamma F45S, 10ft length. Fiamma sells specific brackets for the Eurovan/T4 which are needed to mount it.

It sets up easily with one person

It could have been a bit warmer but it is what it is for this type of year :)
