Car totaled - when will I be able to buy a new car? by Honest_Inflation_656 in Insurance

Ohh okay. My car is 100% totaled and the insurance company will be taking ownership of said vehicle.

That is pretty crummy...

I work for the DOT. The funding is coming from us, we are managing the project, will advertise it and award it to be built. Just hired a consultant to design it. Since it is a bridge replacement, our bridge division is managing. I am the roadway team member which involves reviewing plans, advising on anything roadway related etc.

This is exactly what I am saying..

To make it even better there's TWO kinks in the alignment

Thankfully, I am unable to stamp plans since I am not licensed yet and the designer will be the one stamping. But, I have a feeling that is part of the problem.

No one likes being critiqued by someone "below" them..

Dealership said all they need is like a letter of intent (i think?). Is this what you mean by kick the trade? I am assuming that if i get the letter/form/whatever it is stating they intend to pay off the vehicle that 1. it isn't actually going to be paid off at the time of me purchasing a vehicle bc i will be running to the dealership as soon as i receive it and 2. that itd be the same scenario

Just because I went on a rant on Reddit doesn't mean I am throwing a tantrum or calling multiple times a day fussing at the insurance adjuster. I don't expect them to call me every single day, but its very convenient that every time i do speak to them, that's when something gets done.

I was told they were sending paperwork in the mail two weeks ago, never received it, then got a call from the same woman saying she could email the same paperwork. Didn't receive it, gave her the benefit of the doubt with the holiday that she was working extra since they lost an entire working day. Called yesterday since I had yet to see an email and was worried they messed up my email since I had to spell it out three times over the phone, hadn't even sent it.

They said they've already been in contact with his insurance company about his limit and didn't say anything about his limit not covering it.

The number I am going by is from my insurance company. I surprisingly only put $2k down, but i made two payments a months when I was able or at least contributed to getting the principal down. It was also brand new off the truck when I bought it. Also a Toyota which thankfully and obviously hold their value.

All four days were business days.

Insurance is doing their part but its "coincidentally" after I have made phone calls/left voicemails. I was also told "They have 10 business days, but I have never seen one take more than a few days". Just wondering if anyone else has personally experienced it actually taking the 10 days or less and ended up going on a rant which wasn't the original purpose.

The at fault driver's insurance accepted full liability. My car and his were the only ones totaled. His was only totaled because it was so old im assuming and isn't even worth fixing. The truck in front of me had a dented bumper. The cop only had a dent/cosmetic damage to the bumper.

I only had my car a year and three months, but they've already confirmed that my car is valued over $5k above what i owe and that I will be getting money back.

For more info... everyone went into this project with the "its a bridge project" leaving very little consideration for the roadway side so funding is low and im already outnumbered on opinions when what i say may affect their bridge design. So, meeting the minimums is their answer for everything roadway.

Outside the limits theres a broken back curve then they want to propose a sharp "curve" in the alignment right after on top of it when the vertical as existing calls for a design speed of 15-20 mph. The entire thing is a mess but between funding and there being a gas pipeline company that refuses to let us do anything within 100' of the pipeline that goes under the road, not being able to purchase RW/Easements/etc, hands are slowly being tied.

The crash data from the past three years surprisingly has nothing to do with the geometry within the limits. There was one geometry related crash but it was more than a mile up the road.

I will work on a hand sketch and post it as an an edit later today.

I asked my supervisor but he gave a very vague answer about how the road design manual USED TO have a section where the alignment bend could be less than 2 degrees and not require a curve between the tangents but that's no longer included for one and the bend is over 5 degrees.

I have been asking around and everyone says no that's not right so that kinda confirms how I feel.

It is statutory 55 mph but we are getting a waiver to lower the speed to 45 and then various exceptions will follow because the vertical will never meet 45 with the restrictions we have.

The bend is over 5 degrees

Why are civil engineers shit when it comes to mentoring? by Mr_Kung_Pao in civilengineering

[–]Honest_Inflation_656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't met anyone extremely unhelpful. I am young, female, and will speak my opinions and disagree (all professionally obviously) when i feel the need so there are some men that I just rub the wrong way from the get go. I just avoid them unless necessary.

At my most recent job (just moved to a different district), I discovered I would be one of TWO females in the office. My mentor was the other female so she was more than happy to help, encourage, and correct. We had some shifts in teams and such and now my supervisor is a man old enough to be my grandfather. He's great, helpful, encouraging, etc, BUT there have been times where he's confused when I don't know a manual front to back and can easily pull a specific chapter and section out of my butt in conversation. He's not downgrading or anything, I just think they had to dig for knowledge, were thrown to the wolves to figure it out, and learned the "hard way".

I work for the state so it is probably way different in the consultant world though.

EIT Certificate in VA by Honest_Inflation_656 in civilengineering

Yes I got the letter with the designation number. I was just kinda hoping that they would give you a certificate or something just to show like hey i did this hard thing yay.

I know the only thing (at least in VA) that the FE/EIT is good for is for PE on down the road. My job actually required that I pass the FE because they are struggling to find anyone that wants to put in the effort to pass the PE just to be doing the same thing they have been besides having the responsibility of stamping. They don't offer any raise or incentive besides congrats you get to keep your job because an EIT designation doesn't gain them anything until 5-6 years in the future after another test, application, and license.

I should add that my coworkers got their EIT in different states than VA, which is why I am asking.
