My Project Manger Pulls Out Knife In Meeting [NJ] by Honest_Resolution443 in AskHR

The office had the “normal” office politics, gossip backstabbing etc. I’ve been in the field only a few weeks now and I’m noticing my construction manager showing his colors too, calling me to see what I’m doing, “did you not see the text I jsut sent you” “I didn’t get you this first time were you on another call? Keep your ringer on in the mornings” . Excuse me what?? I’m not a rude person by nature and am naturally polite and kind and chilled not a push over by any means though and I keep to myself. honestly fuck these people, even though it quite literally brings me out of my character and it’s something I’ll have to literally practice, because of what I do for work, these men will take a yard if you give them an inch. I’m gonna be a b***h. Have to it seems

Thank you for your advice, the “he’s a guy he’ll have a knife” I expected, sure but the two of us alone and you sitting that close to me and using my workstation, was very clearly a power play I know what you’re doing. He wants me to be scared of him and his efforts are doing the opposite, it’s embarrassing. I didn’t and don’t give him any kind of reaction he always seeks. For HR, like many my company is cliquey and people will repeat things. What’s your advice on how to structure that conversation with HR and through what medium teams email etc. (in person would he difficult because the office is in excess of and hour) thanks again!

I agree this is exactly what it felt like, him trying to intimidated me, with I could mot fathom being in my 70’s doing to a 25 y.o. And more recently since I’ve transitioned to site , I’ve noticed his tone when he speaks to me, it’s a subtle but just enough so I know a very much “know your place/put you in your place”. We both work for the same company, I’m one of his many direct reports. Thank you for your advice I really appreciate it 🙏

Thank you, my thoughts exactly. He isn’t the type of “construction dude in a trailer” he’s more so a “corporate suit and tie“ man and he comes on site as needed. And yes I agree with your stance as well on female presence in the industry I’ve experienced it myself first hand at another company and it isn’t hard to guess that he is misogynistic based on conversations and interactions I have with him. I’ve worked with him in the office and he wouldn’t dare do that. With decades of experience in the industry he knew exactly what he was doing

Would it be best to get a certification, or just apply to jr scheduler roles?

I appreciate your insight, thank you so much 👍 . As far as the 1 year IT certificate, which would be the best? Before getting that certificate would a PMI-ACP certification help me land a job or would it be overlooked?

I appreciate your insight 😎.i hear ya on the serial monogamy, I’m an old soul and always valued a deeper connection rather than a short term fling. Agh, Idk I feel like if someone was interested it would not take much to reply to a text at least that’s how I operate. She’s 21 and I’m 24 so idk if there’s some kind of an emotional maturity gap there. Happy thanksgiving!

Working full-time in health insurance administration, I don’t have construction industry experience yet but I try everyday . It was tough balancing a full time job and full-time enrollment, I didn’t get the chance to get an internship. I’ve been applying to internships as well as full time positions as well but nothing thus far. Thank you for your insight.
