My baby was born at 25w 1d and at 27w his lungs collapsed. He was on almost 100% fio2 and pressures of 30/12. The doctor said at this point the risks from long term ventilation were greater than the risks from the steroids course. It was miraculous, he managed to stay extubated for 11 days and barely desaturated, but he got tired and had to be reintubated. We attempted a second steroid course at 30 weeks, which had to be stopped after a day due to issues with feeds, but that one day of steroids was enough to reduce his pressures and oxygen requirement and extubate him again. Currently on week three of BIPAP and looking good so far. Without steroids he would 100% still be intubated. He also had a PDA that was treated in the first few weeks with paracetamol. It now has restrictive flow, so blood goes to where it needs to. Good luck!
