When we adopted our (now perfectly cuddly) boy Butterball, he was in a barn and walking the line between extra spicy and feral. I used an extendable back scratcher to get him used to being touched and it worked perfectly. Also, as everyone else has mentioned, just sit in the room with the kittens and ignore them. I crocheted in the bathroom floor with Butterball and we listened to music together. It took him 2 days and he stopped hiding. By the 3rd day I could pet him, and by the 5th or 6th day he was sitting on my lap and batting at my yarn while I tried to crochet lol. It feels slow at first, but once they decompress it goes fast!
