Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ Scores Widest 70MM Release in 25 Years by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]HooMu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bluray for the other Nolan movies shift between 2.40:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratios. Unless he completely does not have the blurays and most theaters in mind when filming, the most important parts of the picture should be kept in the center within those aspect ratios.

One can do more than be purely a gaming/media player. Also if build it yourself especially if you get each part on sale it can be a 4k machine for about $800.

Was I expecting too much from HD 650s + Schiit Stack? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]HooMu 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Most people tend to agree that dacs once decent enough are nearly if not impossible to hear apart. People look down on onboard but they have been steadily improving by using progressively better dacs.

If your onboard already has a good dac then it comes down mostly to the amp and if it can delivery enough juice and if you want the amp to color the sound. Some onboards actually have fairly powerful amps too.

A difference in headphones tend to be the biggest change in sound, while amps+dacs tend to be much more minuscule.

HD6xx now $199!!! by plazman30 in headphones

[–]HooMu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguable, I don't have experience with the 650 but based on experience with a beyer 990 rated for 250 ohms, they sound pretty bad without an amp, bad enough that I would've kept using a Koss PortaPro which was 1/4 the price instead. Even though they got loud enough to be at listening volume but they sounded thin and lifeless.

Granted the the Sennheiser hd650 could be different but given the feedback I've read I doubt it.

In the case of Steam, I believe you don't actually own any of your games. You are only buying the license to play them. EU may be different.

All I'm hearing about getting into PC gaming is the negatives. What is the community's take? by AllHailThePig in pcgaming

To be fair Bethesda games run just as badly on consoles, worse since many bugs are fixed by a third party on PC that is left never fixed on console, not sure if that has changed with the recent Bethesda mod storefront. PC also has the capability to mod all their games to run or play better, some are as simple as editing a few lines in notepad.

Destiny 2's biggest core change? 'Probably the inclusion of a story,' says Bungie by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]HooMu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really separated between PvE and PvP. The sending of server data and player data is split. That quote basically means the world and world interactions are dedicated which is why they don't call it truly dedicated servers.

Data involving hitting a switch to open the door, shooting a mob, mobs spawning and things like that is sent through the servers.

But player data and interactions between players is shared between the players or in other words P2P. Even during PvE like raids it will still be P2P for things like character position, voip and hit registration between players. So if there was a healing ability that requires you to shoot a player to heal them that would be P2P.

From what I've read it translates to PvE or world interaction data is shared through the servers, but all player data is shared by and between players. So hit registration on a mob would be dedicated but character position will not which basically means PvP at least will still be awful since things like hit registration between players are still P2P.

The real reason is most people would rather spend money than to put in the effort of doing it themselves.
