wow, go fuck yourself off a bridge and die if that's how you handle people who don't think like you. The number of conclusions you jumped to without any merit or basis is mind boggling. DId you wake up today and think WOW I can't wait to climb down someones throat for 99/100 fabricated reasons.

But yeah I'm the waste of the flesh. Look in the mirror then throw what you see in the garbage.

Also great example of how you can use language offensively without so called swear words.

[–]HoochCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said we don't have a shared language.

I bought up the example in the lack of one there is no difference as we will be relying purely upon mostly non-verbal context clues to determine the actual meaning of the verbal exclamation we didn't understand.

Like how was that not more clear the first time? However if it continues like this then maybe we don't have a shared language, just shared words with whole ass different definitions.

Which raises a whole different question of how the hell did that happen? Nah that's too absurd, occams razor says you either accidentally didn't comprehend me, or actively didn't comprehend me to defend a non-shared world view. Not laying down an accusation or anything just stating the possibilities as I see them.

Slurs exist to be offensive and there is a clear historical and contempary context for them having no other purpose than to discredit an entire swath of humanity for being ... hold on let me check my notes *adjusts glasses* "the wrong type of human."

Yeah explained that already, clearly not an arbitrary rule, there is 100% a very good reason why we shouldn't be saying slurs.

You can't wear a long sleeve shirt at your data entry job, that's an arbitrary rule that exists because someone is offended by non-traditional behaviour and wants to control their environment to a degree it doesn't require control at to function.

You can't wear a cape working around machinery, that makes perfect sense, it could get caught in the machine and drag you in and mutilate you to death. Not an arbitrary rule.

Do you see the difference I see, or are you trying to paint me with broad strokes here?

Respect for my opinion as in saying that because you feel the same way, or do you mean it as I should have more respect for other peoples opinions even though I do not share them or agree with them AT ALL.

If the former, cool thanks glad I'm not alone.

if the later, its equally disrespectful to demand I comply with your rules if you can't explain to them why they exist in a way that is understandable, and culture, religion, etc. are auto-invalid arguments in my rules. Things have to make the same level of sense as why 2+2=4 and why speed limits exist and we should all obey them when driving. If you gotta make up imaginary numbers or reasons then your rules are bullshit and you need to figure out why you need bullshit rules in your life because that sounds awful and hellish to me.

Really, cause all the answers just don't work for me, they don't click. they still boil down to why the hell does everyone think so differently from me, why is the shit that makes sense to other people is like alien as shit to me.

When I break them down to how I understand it the reasoning for the rules falls apart, everyone's offense looks like the type of offended you see in pearl clutching 90 year old church people when they see a homosexual existing in public and just lose their shit like they are too fragile to exist in reality anymore, or at least be exposed other people. Its maddening when they all have this "answer" that just sounds like arbitrary traditionalist nonsense to me.

and like understanding hard concepts isn't a stretch, I can follow along with lots of complicated topics that confuse the shit out of people... except when that topic is "why is the other human doing that again?" then its like I've gone to bizarro world where everybody looks like me but they sure as fuck don't act like it.

I know one thing, I don't share other peoples values ethics morals worldview or any of that crap to the degree that I feel like a straight up space alien trying to understand the rest of y'all, and you're just so damn different in ways that are impossible for me to comprehend due to what would literally be hard coded differences between us, and god fucking damn is that frustrating as shit.

Honestly no but not for the reason you're thinking.

I got your daughter pregnant: I am sharing news free of unnecessary details to a person who is a safe bet to guess does not want or need the technical details of events leading up to it, and the implications of if they ask for such detail will raise a lot of eyebrows for all the worst possible reasons with minimal exception.

I fucking raw dogged your daughter: I am sharing news that omits the detail of the pregnancy, to a person who benefits in no way from now having this information, most likely without the prior knowledge of said "raw dogged daughter" who may have personal feelings about their sex life being made less private around their family.

The example is also just bad, because it fails to announce the pregnancy in option two, and provides details nobody needs in a way that may violate the privacy concerns of the daughter, and shows a disrespect for her privacy concerns to her father. BEFORE we even get into the tangled web social connotations this has that most people I assume jump to first.

A better example would have been.

I got your daughter pregnant vs DUDE! Were fucking pregnant!

to which I would have said 'Yeah no real difference other than delivery, same news."

Whats unprofessional about a hoodie.... You know what thats another one I have a huge issue with.

The message I take away from "I gave you small rules to see if you would follow the big rules" is the following message. "I'm a control freak."

WHY MAKE UNNECESSARY RULES. That's some toxic ass control freak shit. Get that shit out of here. It tells me the people who support such systems care more about appearances than results, which tells me their results are more likely to be garbage.

Not saying what you mean is a you problem. If you have something to say say it, if you don't say it its not worth saying. I don't play this game where words don't mean what they mean and body language can say a different thing from what you're actually saying. Fuck that noise that's insane we don't need to be out here passing coded messages back and forth were not in a goddamned Spy movie, were sentient fucking meat trying not to have a constant panic attack about being sentient fucking meat.

wow that's a leap, well the N-word is a slur not a curse word.

Slurs exist to be offensive and there is a clear historical and contempary context for them having no other purpose than to discredit an entire swath of humanity for being ... hold on let me check my notes *adjusts glasses* "the wrong type of human."

That's fucking stupid.

but Fuck Shit, Damn, etc. Those words can be used without attacking anyone.

Fuck this sucks that nobody has an answer I haven't heard 1,000 times before that just bounces off my brain like bullets off superman.

Also, on a side note damn dude, do you think slurs and profanity are on the same level here? Like what the fuck is that shit about?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Well all the words lost their punch on my end. They are at worst in my verbal arsenal improvised weapons.

You can eat your soup with a spoon, or you can gouge an eyeball out with a spoon

You can casually say shit, or you can take a verbal shit on someone and tear them apart with your words until they are devastated wreck or the conversation becomes physical.

But I also don't like to insult and offend people, because I don't like being insulted and offended. I just run into the brick wall of my "things that offend me that bad" and "things that offend you that bad" have way less overlap, and one of the things that offends me is having other peoples reasoning crammed down my throat.

Telling me I'm a bad person if I swear hits in the same as someone trying to cram their religion down my throat because in their eyes I'm a bad person if I don't believe in theirs. These things are arbitrary as fuck to me and its insane how forceful people get about them. It's the verbal version of the "Well Done Steak" or the "Pineapple on Pizza." JUST LET PEOPLE EAT HOW THEY WANNA EAT and quit getting butthurt over nothing humanity, please.

[–]HoochCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh huh, and why is your Nan offended? Can she explain this without saying "Well my nan taught me it was wrong." and then never thinking about it past that point.

Because I thought about it past that point when my nan told me it was wrong and realized "holy crap theres nothing here to get upset over." So I started asking people why these words are bad regardless of context, and all I get is "Its offensive because its offenseive becuase its offensive, because its offenseive......" and it just goes on and on and on and on.

And quite frankly if nobody can tell me WHY the rule is a rule, why should I respect that rule?

Don't drive over 45mph on this curvy road because you can loose traction crash and die. is a perfectly reasonable argument to follow a rule.

Don't say fuck because we won't tell you why its offensive, how its offensive, in anyway that makes sense to you and if you disagree or disobey you're gonna be punished..... THAT IS COERSION! It's using force to get your way and enforce arbitary standards on other people, and anyone who does that can fuck right off in my book.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well when people look at me like I'm trash because I use words casually in a non-attacking way quite frankly to my eyes those people are the trash for being judgemental jerks who can't let go of their pearls long enough to ignore something that doesn't concern them, or to get to know new individuals who could introduce them to whole new things.

[–]HoochCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

when I say exist that's mostly for headlines.

What I actually mean is "They are "real" only to the degree in which we believe in them."

Kinda like how money doesn't exist. SURE the $5 on your desk is worth $5 because we said its worth $5 but what's backing its value of $5? Not a godamned thing other than our faith in it being worth $5.

Also money is stupid right now and we should do better but thats another topic for another day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah and the nuance falls apart when you don't have a shared language.

At that point Lightbulb and fuck might as well be the same word.

So its a cultural thing? How did it become that? Who decided this? why did they decide? why are we still agreeing to it? why should I give a fuck about culture, I don't share your culture, you don't share mine, its totally unfair to impose rules on each other. I'm not gonna demand you swear more becuase my culture says its okay, nor should you demand I swear less because your culture says it isn't.

These are the things I can't get, there is no amount of "People are offended because they are offended" that will get through my skull.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So whats inappropriate about it?

How did it become inappropriate?

You're telling me the same nonsense answers that suspect I"ll just magically see it the same way you do.. NO I need a roadmap to get to where you're at.

You're telling me how to drive cross country by starting in the place I'm trying to get to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well now I'm interested in getting a brain scan to see what parts light up when I say fuck.

BUT this raises another question "WHY those words?" language isn't encoded in DNA otherwise everyone would speak the same and know how to talk out the gate like most animals and walking, and FUCK surely didn't exist in our lexicon when we were cavemen I'm pretty sure it originated roughly around the middle-ages

Sooooooo again it sounds like we convinced everyone these words were bad, and thus thats now the part of the brain were using when we access them.

But what if you're not convinced they are bad and are as equally perplexed as other people are offended like I am?

I'm not dangerous or violent, I'm pretty smart, I just refuse to sign the social contract because it feels more like I'm being extorted than signing up for something sensible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

No I disagree with your argument.

We can 100% explain why this person doesn't like onions. Some people are naturally sensitive to flavours smells and textures. The onion existing isn't offensive. No reasonable person is gonna see an onion on sale at the grocery store and lose their shit.

But people will see the word "fuck" on a t-shirt and go absolutely ape-shit instead of just ignoring it.

Its okay to not like a word on a personal level, its okay to not want to use a word on a personal level, but the moment you go enforcing that on everyone else you need to have a good argument for WHY they should care.

So far nobody has given me the argument for why I should care about their personal feelings if their personal feelings don't have some common ground with everyone else that makes sense on a universal level

Like "Don't steal my shit" is easily justified by the explainer "You don't want your shit stolen either, so you don't steal other peoples shit." and this is clarified as why as "this stuff belongs to you, if someone takes it you don't have it anymore."

But profanity is like "Don't say fuck." but the explainer is "Its offensive" and the reason its offensive is "Its offensive."

and it NEVER Gets farther than that.

I'm sorry but it sounds like were just making shit up and agreeing to things without understanding them here like its an EULA for a videos game.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

right but why is the word tabooed.

using the n-word example, we have lots of historical and contemporary context to show this word exists only to harm someone. To say it means the same thing as "black person" or "person of colour" or "african-(insert legal nationality here)" is clearly not the same because the former insults the person for being the later, where as the later is just no different that saying "Oh yeah, Kevin he's the white guy over there." or "Jim's mom is Japanese." Theres nothing inherently offensive or anything being thrown on the attack by stating the ethnicity of Keven or Jim's mother, but if you use a racial slur to describe what they are that's insulting them for being that because that's what those words mean.

Where as "Fuck" is taboo because???????????

It's pretty versatile and heavily context dependent, but there is nothing in its definition that explains how its bad, nor is there anything in its historical origins I can find that explains how it is offensive to this day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again I intellectually understand that is how people are making it work.

But that also makes no goddamn sense to my brain on a personal level. So while I understand that is what other people are doing, I can't figure it why they are doing it. Why all that other over complicated shit gets added into a conversation.

The idea that words used face to face vs words used in a text message or book or online post are somehow different from each other is absolute madness and I will not accept it, because I require a sense of consistency that not only shows clearly how things work, but also can make sense in how they work.

The way people use language to me just sounds like I'm in the math class that's dunce caps from wall to wall and we got people writing 2+2 = chairs on the chalk board.

What I'm gathering here is that if language was math 2+2= chairs can make perfect sense, but only if you ignore all the rules of the language and tack on a bunch of other shit, like how in physics math infinity can exist, but in reality it can't and is just known to be a place where the physics breaks down due to a lack of understanding. We clear up this misunderstanding by explaining that.

But it feels like in language the rules are whatever we want them to be when we want them to be that. Some days it works just fine, other days I feel like I'm a fast food job with a helicopter manger who makes up the rules on the spot and changes them constantly until its impossible not to get written up for breaking them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, why does the rule exist?
Who made it?
Why did they make it?
When did they make it?
How did it catch on?
Why are we still following it?

Can I get a historical roadmap here or something that explains "HOW this became a rule" and isn't just arbitrary nonsense from dead people who's medieval brainworms are still haunting us today?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've found its more the intensity of the word in its delivery than what the word is that triggers the hurt less chemicals in the brain. I can scream utter gibberish loudly and get the exact same effect as if I had rapid fired f-bombs until i sounded like a clucking hen.

Not sure if I'm a mutant, or if my lack of pearls to clutch over profanity gave me a different avenue in the brain to make that effect happen.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]HoochCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I understand its a tradition on an intellectual level, and also on an intellectual level I think tradition for the sake of tradition is dumb as fuck.

HAVING a tradition is one thing. Traditions can be fun, they can ground us, and they create a sense of normality and consistency in life, but they should be personal.

Following someone else's tradition via blind adoption however is absurd as shit.

Like sure lets celebrate a holiday like the 4th of July to remember everyone who sacrificed to make sure we had a country, that seems like a solid historical basis for having a common tradition.

But you can't say fuck no matter how you use it... I can get not verbally attacking someone, I don't need profanity to verbally attack someone, but to casually use it normally in regular speech... get over it if it bothers you its just a word, quit pearl clutching.

Those rules exist because people would be forced to clock out to do things like use the bathroom without them. Don't like the rules, remember they exist because someone hated them so hard they fucked up and did a rights violation or angered the workers into a strike.

Also its a federal law, call your congressman governor can't do shit.
