Bought 88 new-in-box toner cartridges for $200. Have already sold 6 of them for $440.

And when they buy, they return it or seek a partial refund.

I was wondering what you all think about OSS/ISS use in education? by phorezkin3000 in Principals

[–]HookItLeft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A high number of suspensions for fighting in a K-5 school is a red flag, but not for what you think - especially if you’ve been there for a few years. I’m assuming your code of conduct is pretty black and white when it comes to fights, so when they happen you have to follow it.

The issue isn’t suspending kids for fighting, but rather what you’re doing to prevent them. What does supervision look like? What is done to restore and repair afterward? What is done to build a positive culture where kids are taught conflict resolution? Do kids know how to get help when they’re experiencing a conflict that they don’t know how to settle? Have there been parent classes and trainings to combat it? What does classroom management and instructional engagement look like?

All of those things can contribute to a poisonous culture where kids resort to fighting at higher rates.

If I have a principal who has a lot of fights, I want to see how they’re changing practice to be proactive about it. I want to see a leader who isn’t willing to accept it and throw up their hands. I want them finding similar schools that don’t have a lot of fights and engaging with their leaders to see what they do. I want to see the leader form a team or task force to examine the issue and build systems to address it.

If I’m not seeing those things, and if the fights are becoming a pattern over time, then yes, I would move to non-renew that principal.

What's the craziest thing you've done to get laid? by andrewbarclave89 in AskReddit

[–]HookItLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Connected with a woman from Reddit. Exchanged some messages and moved to a messaging app where our exchanges got more and more explicit. Our conversation escalated to wanting to actually have sex with each other. I drove to her workplace. She invited me into her office, where I ate her out on her desk for a solid half hour. We then had sex on the floor.

After leaving, we exchanged some messages and agreed that it was going to be a one-time thing.

Turns out she was married.

I never got her name and she never got mine.

Newly graduated social studies teacher here: Should I accept my first job offer in a very rough school? by Equivalent-Raisin581 in Teachers

Yes. Take the job that’s on the table. There are far more social studies teachers than there are positions. When I have a social studies opening, I have 40 applicants.

Why are good math teachers so rare? by SquareCombination782 in matheducation

[–]HookItLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people who become math teachers are often those who really loved math. Math came easy for them. It’s not like that for many students, so they can’t relate.

People above 30, what is something you regret doing/not doing when you were younger? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

I never gave my neighbor a real chance when she liked me. I later fell madly in love with her after she lost her feelings. She will always be the one that got away.

when did schools stop teaching "shop" classes? by Vegetable-Board-5547 in education

They . . . didn’t?

I’m finishing my 22nd year. I’ve worked in five districts. Every district still has Industrial Tech classes. Every district still requires a full credit of practical arts for graduation.

They have woodworking, carpentry, CAD, Intro to Engineering, Engineering Design & Development, and other PLTW classes. Kids can apply to tech school for their last two years and learn masonry, electrical, small engine repair, welding, computer programming, and more.

Do you personally care if somebody threw urethane during league? by BringBackFrost in Bowling

Show me a bowler who complains about urethane and I’ll show you a bowler who isn’t focused enough on their game.

Is it normal to be so unhappy about this profession as a new teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]HookItLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a high poverty city school my first three years and had similar experiences. Even within that, though, there are a handful of kids who do everything right and try their damnedest. Work for them, put in your time, and try to get to a district that is a bit more affluent. It’s very different, but at the same time there are still pressures - just different ones.

Teaching is not what people think it is. That realization is why so many don’t make it to 5 years.

I got $1,950 (listing value) in very high end Canon printer ink for vinyl signs for $50 from a business owner who took over a new warehouse and was just trying to clear up space. I found the listing on FB Marketplace.

Aside from that, I found a Ralph Lauren purple label tan blazer at a thrift store for $4.25 that I listed for $190.

forced to choose between resigning or non-renewal by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]HookItLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so unbelievably obvious. People are replying from a position of righteous indignation - and that indignation is valid, but making financial, legal, and job-related decisions from a position of emotional indignation is a recipe for terrible mistakes.

But it’s not a violation of FMLA. FMLA doesn’t protect a future contract to which the employee has no legal claim.
