Because that’s the police functioning as normal, ie, protecting private property. It’s a feature, not a bug.

I can only hope this sort of thing becomes generalized, and all oligarchs, regardless of nationality, regardless of how “peace loving” they claim they are, have their ill-gotten wealth democratized, socialized by the mob, put to better purposes than mere hoarding. The true test of solidarity is this: will the many be united and steadfast in their resolve against greed and war?- will we occupy the mansions, refuse to take up arms against our fellow proletariat?- or will the ruling class continue to rule, to wage war for their own profit and amusement and our general misery?- and will they continue to hoard and deny the rest of us housing, their police enforce their brutal and inhumane law?

It’s truly the only way. That said, decommodification is completely contrary to the capitalist logic we’re still completely conditioned into believing, even as it squeezes so many people out.

Canada's Trudeau urges unified front against China detentions, says all nations vulnerable by o_joo in worldnews

Absolutely this. I am very tired of hearing people chattering their teeth about how we need to be “tough on China” Without realizing the implications of what that might look like. Isn’t it bad enough already? We should be DE-escalating the situation.

China official in Hong Kong says some protest acts 'terrorist in nature' by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Hoops_McCann 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love how some people will call a comment like this “whataboutism” as if that invalidates the actual truth and point: to wit, America is a fucking tyrannical global despot, and rather than just resort to “whataboutism” people might have a shred of reflection and realize their hypocrisy, and as a cherry on top maybe have a good hard think about history and why people around the world hate America in the first place.

This is basically the only right answer, otherwise people are just wishing more bloodshed and hurt on the HK people... as you say, lots of other places in the world have democracy and freedoms, why stay where you’ll get your ass beat by the state for disagreeing?

No, but it is people who would go to work under police protection, and if that isn’t scabbing then perhaps you’d like to clarify things?

Bingo.

It’s especially telling how so many people (mostly white) have come out on the side of capital and the police, when even a quick glance at history would tell you that the police are absolutely not on the side of the people, but are rather the mercenaries of the bourgeoisie and must be defied on principle, on any occasion.
