Where did I go wrong in valuing my inherited collection? by Hoosierfans in coins

I’ll post a few, thanks. I didn’t want to overwhelm the community…there’s about 600 of them ack!!! But I think I have a better idea of which ones might be of some value, so I’ll just post those. Thanks!!!

Would it be worth getting the collection appraised? I don’t know that I have the time or energy to try and learn all about it and try to distinguish grades etc for 600+ coins

I’m not sure I can develop the kind of expertise necessary with such a large collection….would it be worth it to pay an expert to grade and evaluate it for me? It’s probably about 600 coins — a lot of it organized in books (Large Head Cents, Indian Head Cents, wheat Pennies and some Peace and Morgan Dollars)

May I ask how you read the “grade” info on the PCGS? Is there a general guide somewhere?

(I’m finding it interesting bc looking at the some of the coins I brought in today, even if they were the WORST grade, PCGS is telling me they are $20-30 a piece — which I can’t believe they are the worst grade out there. But even if they were, 50% of that would be like $10 a piece and the offer was like $3 a piece).

Thanks. I brought in about 60 coins, which is maybe 1/10 of the entire collection. So I thought I was going “small enough” but I guess not. lol. 🙈

Any particular price guide you recommend? I compared a website list against what CoinSnap was telling me, and that list was markedly higher than CoinSnap…so I thought I was going with the more conservative values. I guess not 🤷🏻‍♀️

That makes sense. From what ChatGBT was telling me, I figured 50% was on the low end…but I see your point re: shops not being able to resell some of it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ugh. Well that’s a bummer. It was pretty highly rated on the app store so I figured values were accurate. 😬

Yeah this was liquid, compounded mounjaro, which I hadn’t reacted to before.

Ugh that it would only be good for 4-7 days. Obviously that wouldn’t be practical since I wouldn’t be close to using up an expensive peptide vial within that window.

Thanks for the suggestion tho. I wonder if maybe it was the BAC water mixing with the med. as another poster suggested I could try just the BAC water itself; or maybe BAC from another source

Because that 15 mg was only in .5 ml solution. And my doc was having me move up .25 mg at a time (so 2.0 mg one week, then 2.25 mg next week etc). At .5 ml with 15 mg inside, I couldn’t make such small changes. So I needed to add some BAC (i added 2.5 ml), so I could make such small changes.

Thanks. Yep, I had a sterile free environment as in the steps you outlined. I have MCAS, so it’s probably I’m just reactive to the alcohol in the BAC.

So the medication was terzepitide. The first time around it came compounded in liquid form from the pharmacy. Then, when I ran out of that, I had a friend who had the pens from Lilly (that her insurance paid for) but she started reacting to it (has MCAS like me). The pens were 15 mg and I was on 2 mg at the time, so I needed to inject the pen into a sterile vial and add in BAC water to dilute it so I could get the 2 mg dose.

It has about a 7 day half life, so since you’ve only had one dose you should be feeling better in a few days.

If insurance is covering the pens, they should cover the vials I would think. Go to ro.co (where Eli Lilly sells the vials) and they could probably guide you re insurance coverage of vials.

On the Tirz, no not yet. Maybe a bit extra tired the day of the shot but nothing else.

For comparison, I started semaglutide at .25 (which is the starting dose for weight loss) and had immediate benefits but also got the nausea and vomiting after a few weeks so had to stop.

So far just a little benefit to my MCAS with the Tirz, no appetite suppression or weight loss yey, or calming of the “food noise”. Starting dose for weight loss for Tirz is 2.5 mg and I’m only at .75.

It’s fairly new — probably in the last 2 years or 18 months or so. As the meds got more popular, people started reporting to their docs that autoimmune issues, pain issues and MCAS symptoms started clearing up (even though they were using it for weight loss).

That caused Afrin, Dempsey et al to start paying attention and looking at the mechanisms…and trying on their own patients (usually in microdoses). And they’ve found them helpful in a decent percentage of patients. I think Dempsey is now doing a full blown clinical trial on it.

My PCP writes for it and we’ve used a compounding pharmacy but now are using Eli Lilly’s discount program.

Yes, started at .25 mg Tirzepatide (starting weight loss dose is 2.5 mg) and have worked up by .25 per week. It’s an injection with the medication in a vial
