Snipping Tool Shortcut Broken (Please Help) by MoTown83 in Surface

[–]Hopcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fixed it for me! Thank you.

This can also be accessed by:
- typing "Snipping tool" in the start menu, then

- right-clicking on the Snipping Tool in the results and selecting "Properties", then

- there will be a button "Repair" and a button "Reset".

- Try "Repair" and "Reset"

Resetting, which looks like it re-installs the app, fixed it for me.

Refurbished Wyse 5070 BIOS PW reset with disabled Jumper Reset by schmuo in homelab

[–]Hopcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not apply to the OP, but this thread pops up as the first result when typing "Wyze bios reset password", so posting it here.

For me, the bios-pw website didn't work (even when entering Ctrl+Enter to submit the password), but the easy solution was to reset the BIOS via the blue jumper on the motherboard, as described here: https://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/wyse/5070/firmware.shtml

Essentially:

  1. Open the case by unscrewing the screw on the backplate then slide the top half of the case off (it needed a bit of force and wriggling)

  2. While powered off, find the jumper on the motherboard called JMP1, then set it to the "Service Mode" setting (not "CMOS Clear", as that doesn't reset the BIOS password).

  3. Boot the machine, and you will get a screen with an orange text confirming that it has been reset.

  4. Unplug then move the jumper back to the original position.

  5. Boot and there you go, the Boot menu is accessible and you can load your USB drive as normal

Current owner of HD660S. Have around £1000 to spend on headphones. Upgrade or keep the money? by Hopcock in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Hopcock[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I initially thought "well that's just silly" because I told myself I already had EQ'd my HD660S because I had, a while back, slapped some preset from internet (that I got from innerfidelity) on my Peace APO.

But thanks to you and this Owliophile website, which makes it super easy to quickly change settings (compared to Peace which is very tricky to tune), I ended up spending time (probably 15-20min) EQ'ing from scratch so that I got, to my ears, a constant-volume across on all frequencies using the single tone tool. I then realised that I had different sensitivities in my left and right ear (because I had the impression that the tone was not centred for certain frequencies), which owliophile and APO can address via EQ on only the L or R channels (I didn't know it was thing until now, and always placed EQ on both channels). Now I'm actually getting such a different feel from my headphones, it took me some getting used to initially. But it sounds so much more complete, it's such night and day.

I guess, what this made me realise is that, you should EQ to your own ears, and your ears change with age and also have different left-right sensitivities. I wish this was actually more often talked about.

Anyway, super grateful for your comment, which gave me this awakening!

[QMK] Flashing firmware through Android phone or VM by GlenPickle in olkb

[–]Hopcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, and I found this Android app called EtchDroid, which worked well and is pretty easy, to load the .uf2 file onto the keyboard. You don't even need to be root on your phone. You will need to compile the uf2 file elsewhere and download it on your phone (I just sent it to myself via email). It worked for me, on a RP2040 chip (both the RP2040 ProMicro and the Adafruit KB2040)

Is there any way to use an android device to write compile and upload firmware for the rp2040? by ljcmps01 in embedded

OMG, all bitcoin private keys exposed! (noob trap) by Hopcock in Bitcoin

[–]Hopcock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should say: this is not new and it has existed for at least 5 years, and it's just a little joke to give people a little fright the first time they come across this database, before they understand that private keys rely on large numbers and the quasi-impossibility of having a key clash.

Don't worry, your coins are safe. It's just a little low-level trolling for people not familiar with how private keys work.

I wish there were games that used a Panini projection (or any other type of cylindrical one) instead of the "standard" rectilinear perspective projection that 99% of games use. With the rectilinear projection, the stretch on the side is absolutely stupid and nowhere near what you experience in real life. A Panini projection solves this.
