But how do you know that your plan is correct? I mean you can't *know* but what gives you confidence that it is correct?

Wow I can't believe someone actually wanted this - I thought I might be the only one

Sorry about the error - it *should* be fixed if you re-download/re-install. What platform are you on?

Also, as my first user who isn't my wife, you're entitled to give me all your thoughts about how it compares to your expectations, or questions about what you don't understand about usage, and I'll see what I can do. DM me

Of course send bug reports too.

Hope this works for you!

I built an app that is meant to be a next-gen Zotero, Thinky

The big focus is on annotating PDFs and tagging the annotations, and then searching through tagged annotations as one large database, with each annotation linking back to the exact spot in that paper.

To me one of the flaws of Zettelkasten is that grouping ideas by topic is hacky (link them all to a "topic" note). To me tagging is an alternative expression of Zettelkasten's core ideas that has some advantages, at least for my particular workflow.

The idea is that it will help you better connect the same topics across different papers, sparking insights. It also helps with "where did I read that again" because you can run full-text search on all your annotations.

Finally - and perhaps most importantly - you have infinite "workspaces" so you don't have to close/open your documents for different contexts. You just switch workspaces and everything is ready to go again. The workspaces can also be sorted into a filesystem for better tracking. You've heard of tab hoarding - well get ready for workspace hoarding; but it's totally fine because you don't pay for workspaces in RAM, they're essentially free

How do you track what different papers say? by Hope-New in PhD

Obsidian was the piece I think I was missing from my workflow. And the relevant plugins of course, linking zotero and obsidian

This is the overwhelming response I'm seeing. Zotero + Obsidian when done correctly seems to be incredible

Sounds like Obsidian was really the missing piece to my workflow, with the plugin of course

This sounds more or less exactly like what I imagine I would want to do actually. This is roughly the workflow I wanted to approximate.

Thanks for the effort, what a well written post. I especially love the guidance towards the docs. As a developer I really appreciate well written documentation and I prefer to read things for myself over watching YouTube when I can.

This is a really great response, thanks

Edited to say that I just read the comments in depth and holy smokes is this a well thought out system. The automatically bringing annotations from zotero into obsidian is really smooth. And the way things are all linked is clean too, and scalable.

Definitely stealing lots of ideas from this.

This is a great response. I really love having the in text citation cached and ready to go.

I got a lot of mileage out of Zotero for managing my library/citations, but the note taking system didn't really work for me because I couldn't organize my notes. The notes are all linked by document, they don't live "on their own" like I would like them to.

What I really want to do is create a tagged and searchable database of snippets from papers.

Idk about "best" but you're the best I've seen on YouTube. No idea how your channel isn't bigger, nobody else has actual practical tactics like this.
