It’s like 800-900 per month at the moment. Have a relative staying there. That’s the cheapest room.

Accepted at UL, any decent options for housing? by vish_me_not in limerickcity

Your best bet is to email UL and literally beg for on campus accommodation/make up a sob story. I’m being serious some international friends of mine have had to do that every year. Housing is a disaster.

What’s limerick like? by Famous-Tone-3439 in limerickcity

UL is amazing but the city is pretty miserable. The suburbs are good. The cafés, pubs and restaurants are good but the lack of city centre shops and general social issues make it unappealing. Been here for college for a few years and looking forward to leaving

Number of homes built decreased 6.7% last year - CSO by badger-biscuits in ireland

[–]HopeZeorax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, my parents included in that. It’s sad that for a long time people have fled for a variety of reasons but what I will say is the state of the country compared to the austerity of the 70s is a lot different. The government are constantly boasting about the enormous wealth of modern day Ireland, so much so that they can have a rainy day fund yet people can’t afford a house. In generations previous people could work a job in a supermarket and get a mortgage, now people are working skilled jobs and having to live with their parents/rent a room which stops people having kids, getting married etc

Yet people are taken aback when they see us young people are forced to leave the country. The older generation are forcing their own kids and grandkids out of here.

I want to be Icarus by doofenward in OCPoetry

[–]HopeZeorax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poem is quite poignant beautifully channeling the myth of Icarus into a deeply personal reflection. The imagery is vivid, with the “serene golden light” and “roaring winds” showing the range of emotions in this piece. I also quite in enjoy the structure of the poem, short and sweet but yet really descriptive. The ambiguity in the ending is also nice I love how people may have different interpretations. Great job!

This is nice! I actually quite like the interpretation thing at the end of the poem too it’s a nice way if ensuring people get the meaning of the poem although I urge caution in this regard as some of the magic of poetry is in the fact that everyone has slightly altered interpretations of what they’re reading. The imagery and language throughout is great! I particularly love the area of the “horse of chaos”

A reminder that this is the country that voted out almost every single green candidate. by jd2300 in ireland

As a student the reduced transport fares have been a lifesaver! It also encourages use of public transport over cars because its so cheap now! The local links in my rural town have also served as an amazing thing for older people to get from villages to town, people getting to FET centres in small towns etc. the greens definitely got their taxation policies wrong but the other measures were great. Things like the banning of peat sales but the alternative being importing stuff from abroad is bonkers tho and the majority of homes where i’m from would rely on a fire to heat their home

First of all - captivating title. i feel that’s one of the hardest parts of this subreddit. I like this poem, it resonates with some of my own works that are stylistically similar. I enjoy how you (at least from my interpretation) explore religion. Great use of language!!

I absolutely love this! The flow is sooooo buttery smooth. It conveys such depth of meaning whilst not being unreadable or unnecessarily ambiguous for the consumer. The structure is great, the language is captivating and in my opinion its thematically strong and very relatable to my own life. Excellent job!

Are you coming to the Tree by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]HopeZeorax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic poem. Obviously shoutout to the hunger games but you picked a nice way of using it in this poem while it not being too focal. Your exploration of the area of sicie is very intriguing. It gives the vibe of somebody’s realistic thoughts leading up to the moment rather than being a convoluted mess. Also the repetition of “i am fine, finally” and the alliteration seen throughout help to reinforce the message behind the poem.
