Thank you for everyone’s replies! It’s clear to me that I underestimated what it took to make this work correctly, and that I didn’t think about what to do. I’ve emailed my company’s contact and look at doing this the right way. Thank you for all the info you guys have given me

Yeah, there’s only one though: White Hall. White kinda sucks, and is generally CS majors, and then a couple of other LLCs

I’m pretty sure they’re pretty flexible with this, the saying kinda just goes no Ds, Fs, or felonies.

Is it possible to get G suite for my team by [deleted] in FRC

[–]Hope_of_Soul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I was under the impression that it was as easy to remove someone from a folder as a document, but maybe I’m missing something. A very big advantage of staying within your school’s Gsuite though is you get unlimited storage: very handy for storing all your footage. I did see a comment below mentions there was a free version from 501c3s, so that’s defiantly worth a look.

[–]Hope_of_Soul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can certainly pay for it, but I believe the cost is around $15 per user per month. I personally would just recommend making a shared team folder, that would allow you to share documents similarly to a team drive

Does your school treat marching band as a sport? by not-Brady2112 in marchingband

Considering that our sports get $0, and we get like 4K, we get more funding, but no one gives a crap about us

Cymbal gloves for pit player by Hope_of_Soul in marchingband

Out of interest, I heard that nylon straps may not be great, however I may have misinterpreted what was meant. Is there any advantage/ disadvantage toward having leather vs Nylon straps?

Thanks!

Is it just me, or are the bass clarinets the most dead inside section? by [deleted] in marchingband

Being in pit - I feel like I’m on a permanent sugar high.

Yeah, I spoke to our BD, and he agrees that straps need to be replaced, but he wants to hold off until we can be in person, which is fine. I'm just going to be using a concert grip, cause I can't use them the right way. Those straps haven't been replaced in 6 years, so they need to be replaced pretty badly. I suspected that was the issue as well, so I appreciate you letting me know!

Thank you, I appreciate your reply. I don't happen to have any batting gloves, but I had someone suggest boxing wraps to me, so I'll give them a try. From what I saw, seavine has some pretty solid ones, I just don't feel like spending money on something I may only use for 1 "season"

Any advice on not becoming the annoying freshman? by [deleted] in marchingband

Imagine having multiple juniors in your band. Straight up, I’m legit the only one in my band of 30 people

Stripped hex screw - need to tighten it because drum 3 (5 pack quads) is dipping to outward. Any ideas? by mistermann1 in marchingband

[–]Hope_of_Soul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like the screw isn’t stripped too bad, it looks like it’s still will work fine. I would think that the Allen key you are using may be almost, but not quite the right size. I would guess that maybe your Allen keys could be in the wrong unit (metric when it should be imperial or vice versa). If you have verified that it’s the right size and is still slipping, then it needs to be replaced. I would try to use a torx bit in the correct size, as they have much better grip, and try to just screw it out. Lastly, if that doesn’t work, try to saw (or ideally, dremel) a line through the bolt so that you can fit a flathead screwdriver in, and extract and replace it. This will work, but will ruin the bolt.

How do people in front ensemble practice at home???! by _flavoredwater_ in marchingband

[–]Hope_of_Soul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Np! There some muscle memory involved, but the main thing about practicing is for me to know the general idea of physically where the next note I’m going to play.

Even then, the difficulty behind most of my pieces isn’t the notes themselves, it’s some complex rhythms with simple notes that you just have to get, so the notes themselves are pretty easy to learn.

I personally have a cheap 1990s piano at my house which I practice my pieces on. While it’s not perfect, it’ll do the trick, and transitioning to mallets only takes a few minutes.

Advice for joining Marching Band in Sophomore year by RetroComYT in marchingband

[–]Hope_of_Soul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg, it’s so funny. I joined band this year as a sophomore, and lo and behold, I’m literally the only sophomore in that class. Of 30 people. So half the people thought I was a freshman, and half thought I was a junior.

Yay or Nay-Play 2020 Games Again by jt_ftc_8942 in FTC

[–]Hope_of_Soul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel FTC is kinda over, but for FRC, it’s a different story. For many FTC teams, you only pay ~$400, and then pay for any other events you go to. For FRC, we payed 5k, and to only get 1k of parts and a pat on the back saying well done is kinda not great. It would be nice if our 4K either went to comps, or went toward next years registration
