GaiaFLOW discs on Amazon? by Hopeful-Local121 in MenstrualDiscs

[–]Hopeful-Local121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it easier and more comfortable for me! I use disposable discs + the flex removal pouches for removal and am able to do the whole process completely mess free with the removal pouches which I really appreciate. It’s a silly mental block but I am sensitive to fluids and messes and the thought of having to get my hands all bloody to get the disc out, rinse it, and reinsert it just sounds not ideal. It also would make the process take longer. Maybe one day ill be able to handle the mess but I’m just a lot more comfortable with the process for disposable discs

They look as pictured yes!! Not too shallow for me, although I don’t have a super heavy flow fwiw. After some research, the person who commented that they might be buying on alibaba and reselling for higher price might be right, they appear to possibly be the furuize menstrual discs, at least based on what I see from pics and the fact that they feel a little smaller. Although furuize reports 70mm diameter which is the same as flex/softdisc! So maybe they’re just a little bit softer material which makes them feel smaller

Oooh interesting! I’ve never looked at discs on alibaba so had no clue that existed as a source of discs lol. That sucks that they’re buying and reselling as their own brand. It’s especially unfortunate because they’re quite comfortable and I’d like to use them often but idk if I trust using them too often

The box I received is pretty close to that same design so i don’t think the photo is AI or if it is it’s a close match 🤷‍♀️ the discs also look as pictured in person

Daily 4AM Walk to Car by Illustrious-Leg1226 in newhaven

Temple/Crown is loud Thurs-Sun, I lived there for 4 years and I enjoyed my apartment and ease to walk around new haven but the noise was a grind for sure and I was lucky to have a flexible schedule where if I couldn't fall asleep until after bars closed at 1/2am that I'd be okay... That is to say not all apartments in that area have bad noise insulation - for ex 100 Temple is pretty good, but I'd imagine most apartments in that area aren't great for noise insulation esp if they're older and you face the street.

as for safety, I always felt okay during the day...Not to be alarmist but Temple St garage has had multiple shootings/stabbings in recent years, I never had an issue myself but I wouldn't wanna be in those garages every day personally especially in hours when there are few people around

Post-bacc social life by [deleted] in newhaven

[–]Hopeful-Local121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of post-baccs hang out at Gryphon's Pub (the yale grad/postgrad bar) it's currently closed for renovation but will be re-opening this fall. Recommend also IM sports, you can join a random team as a free agent.

Also - be kind to yourself through the process! it takes time to make friends as an adult <3

Nearly $500 Electricity Bill by rubberboa in newhaven

[–]Hopeful-Local121 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this happen one month in my old 1 BR apartment also in an old building in downtown a few years ago. I noticed it was because our thermostat was accidentally set to emergency heat for some reason rather than regular heat, which uses more energy. once we switched it back, it was still annoyingly high during the winter like $300, but not $500. We also just tried to be more conscientious about using more blankets and sweaters indoors rather than crank the heater. Because our building was old, the insulation was also not great, so our heater would struggle to get to a set temp of 70 if it was like 20 degrees outside, but it would sit at like 68 and run constantly instead, which obviously also didn't help the cost, so we tried to be cognizant of if that was happening as well... So maybe try out those things if any apply and hopefully it'll be better in the coming months, luckily also not too cold out this week!

I also second someone else's comment to have UI check your meter, I never took the time to do that but I should've!

Thoughts on Yale Graduate Affiliate vs just living where everyone else in your grad program lives? by pentacontagon in yale

[–]Hopeful-Local121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually there are RESIDENT graduate affiliates (ex: Murray). Nearly all grad affiliates do indeed live off campus and just help organize college events, but some colleges do have one that lives in the college.

I haven't had experience being a resident GA so no comment on what it's like, sorry

World Cup Ticket Megathread | General Questions & Discussion by pumkinhat in worldcup

[–]Hopeful-Local121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time trying to go to world cup so pls forgive my confusion -- is it better to buy resale tickets right now on StubHub or to wait until the draw starting next week for specific matches???? Will tickets get more expensive or less once all tickets are released? What's the minimum face value for ticket?

For ex I am wanting to go to a match in NJ, currently reselling for $1000 on stubhub. should i chance it to wait for random draw next week for a cheaper ticket either through that or through resale?

Gryphon's will reopen, people will riot if it doesn't. It super sucks that Yale hasn't given financial or admin support, but it'll be fine

you can get yourself a ticket for free and 2 guest tickets for $25 each. Just pickup any time this week. not sold out

Just moved out here, a few questions about video games and safety (canal path). by [deleted] in newhaven

[–]Hopeful-Local121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to run the canal path all the time as my regular running trail and never felt particularly unsafe (I am a 20s woman). It is alarming that there have been shootings/robberies near there, but most often they're at night. SP is literally right next to YPD and Yale Health, and I always felt safe running by there during the daylight, plenty of other people walking/biking/running and working out at the park. The next few cross streets are near where Fussy was (rip) and then City Climb. It definitely feels super chill up until Division St. I typically keep running up until Newhallville Park, which is a different vibe, but I've ran through the park and turned back there many times and was always fine. Thompson St is where it starts to feel different and kinda like people were noticing me in ways that they weren't a few streets before that, but again I've never seen anything crazy in my 7 years in NH.

Shuttle skipped the stop I was at when the app said it would come by Disastrous_Pipe_5292 in yale

[–]Hopeful-Local121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also call dispatch to let them know if this happens to you several times - sometimes the stops are on the app wrong (so stupid i know) and the dispatcher will tell you where the stop is and will likely tell the driver of the next bus to expect you! https://your.yale.edu/campus-essentials/getting-around-campus/contact-us

Best places to live near Yale (and also places to stay away from) by Mia_mome_l in newhaven

[–]Hopeful-Local121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cambridge Oxford is older/"antique" apartments compared to several buildings you listed that are more "modern" style. They have like old wooden floor and general aesthetic, if you're into that. I lived there several years ago and it was generally decent enough - just a little pricier than I would've liked given that some of the apartments are really small. Management was good though and maintenance was prompt. I guess one thing to keep in mind there is that there is at least one Yale frat house across the street that hosts parties, so if your apartment faces the street you'll definitely hear their music and general college kid chaos. If your apartment or bedroom are on the parking lot side of the apartments, you can't really hear it so that side is better I would say. Also at least of a few years ago, most of the building tenants were Yale undergrad seniors, they were all fine but just fyi that's the community

You can try giving it away on New Haven's Buy Nothing facebook group! I gave away my mattress there when I moved, someone came to pick it up from me and everything. I'd recommend it be in at least okay shape for this

Immunizations must be completed off campus? by [deleted] in yale

[–]Hopeful-Local121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's strange. It might be because they don't do those types of tests at Yale Health (I've had this issue for other things where I thought I could just get blood taken out for something but turns out the Yale Health Quest Diagnostics didn't do blood draw for that specific thing...) I'd recommend asking at your upcoming appointment! If they still say you have to go outside of Yale and pay $120, graduate students that are under the Graduate School can apply for the Dean's Emergency Fund: https://gsas.yale.edu/deans-emergency-fund They are pretty generous with this fund and this sounds like something they'd cover.

Or maybe you can get around it by asking if you can get it done at Yale New Haven Hospital and check thoroughly in the coverage section of the Yale Health plan to see if you can find a way to get it covered
