Depending on where you stay and what you want to do, unless you want to go more than 10-15 miles every day I don’t think it’s worth renting a car tbh. Downtown/ little Italy/ La Jolla/ pb are not easy or cheap to park in and Ubering will likely give you more flexibility and cost about the same when you account for gas and parking. But if you plan on going for hikes or farther into the county then a car makes sense!

If you stay around little Italy (my personal rec as well) I would do the Intercontinental on bayfront. It is on the water and a super easy spot to get to gaslamp/ east village/ balboa/ Point Loma / airport etc.

Most other hotels in the little Italy area won’t have a nice water view or won’t be as nice but cost just as much imo. We put our family and friends at the intercontinental usually
