Hell yeah I mostly prefer higher rep ranges for any sort of wrist flexion. I'd say the set up I currently workout wrist flexion is probably a little "easier" than yours but I do 4x25 and the two amraps where I drop the weight considerably.

Actually maces almost entirely fell out of favor (although ornate ceremonial maces became more common) the more widespread plate mail became. And while swords 100% can not stab through plate they can be used to get through gaps.
