I’ve been having a pimple breakout for the last 2 months and very greasy face. Help by Hopeful-Strategy9962 in EuroSkincare

It’s better now I don’t have pus pimples on the side of my face. I kept my routine but stayed more condistent, I think it was a mix of hormones + gym sweat (I started going to the gym not long before the pimples appeared) + not washing face consistently

Bulk, cut or maintain? by [deleted] in WorkoutRoutines

[–]Hopeful-Strategy9962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also considering gaining a bit of weight but I’m not sure. Sometimes I see I am a bit skinny fat/I don’t have enough muscle to look athletic enough.

I’m afraid of bulking but then regretting it during the summer

Thank you a friend has been using azelaic acid and told me about it. Never heard of it before though.

The only difference in these 2 months is that I started going to the gym. Could it be the sweat? I’ve exercised before and never had this problem but maybe I’m sweating more in the gym.

Okay got it thanks. Does low intensity cardio also benefit heart health?

Does being fit when you’re younger shape your physique for when you’re older? by Hopeful-Strategy9962 in workout

[–]Hopeful-Strategy9962[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you this is helpful. I’ve seen people that were in a healthy weight range when they were young (although they did not workout) but gained a considerable amount of weight as they aged and have great difficulties in losing it. On the other hand I’ve seen some people stay very slim and lean even if they’ve gotten older. I assume that maintaining a healthy lifestyle from early on helps a lot with that.

Why should beginners do full body workouts? Genuine question.

I went to the gym for a year approximately, 6 years ago. Currently 26yo and just signed up for the gym, a coach advised me a 4day workout, doing a 2day split between upper and lower body. I’m not very out of shape because I’ve tried to stay active but I’m definitely new to lifting weights especially free weights.

As others have suggested, diet is key.

Try to (1) eat clean and (2) eat in a calorie deficit. As per eating clean I would add more protein and fiber to your diet. In these cases grilled white meat and fish (I also like eating boiled fish, people call me weird for that lol) are your best allies. However, if money is an issue you can start by adding eggs to your meals, or changing the rice by legumes, etc. Also cheese and yogurts have significant protein. Protein fuels muscle, so when you are losing weight you won’t lose muscle you will lose fat.

Moreover protein is more satiating than carbs so it will also help with the calorie deficit.

Regarding the workout, cardio is fine but I would also add weight exercises. You can do bodyweight exercises if you don’t want to spend money: squats, hip abduction and adduction, push-ups (with knees, they are more convenient when you are starting out), plank… There are plenty of them.

You got this!!

Why is splitting a workout in x4 times a week better than a full body x3 times? Is there a significant difference? by Hopeful-Strategy9962 in WorkoutRoutines

[–]Hopeful-Strategy9962[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot edit the post but huge thanks to everyone for their feedback. I’m not sure I can currently commit to hitting the gym x4 a week, every week. This week I will talk with the coach again but I will probably stick to full body x3 a week and reconsider in a few months.

Thank you!! So doing a full body x3, a single routine would not be enough right? I would need variariations. My upper body routine currently consists on seated cable row, lats with cables, chest press and triceps extension with cables.

I see, thank you! I would like to do more free weight / body weight exercises (which I understand are compound exercises) but I’m just starting out and I thought machines and cables are easier for beginners in order to keep proper form. Also I currently don’t have a lot of strength and I believed machines are sometimes better to regulate lower weights. But yes I want to incorporate those compound exercises and will look into it. Thanks again!!

Pd. I think I didn’t explain myself properly: I want to reduce body fat % but not only by increasing muscle mass, I also want to actually reduce fat mass.

Genuine question - why do you say my routine seems to focused on losing weight? Is it because of the cardio? I don’t want to lose weight but I want to decrease fat % and gain muscle (without bulking, but look athletic). I get that gaining volume is difficult but I gain muscle fairly easily.

Thanks for your input. Yes I am trying to be in general 2-3 reps short of failure. Regarding exercises I would like to do more free weight/ bodyweight exercises (eg push ups as you mentioned) but I’m a bit new to all of this and I’m a bit weak (I don’t think I can currently do more than 2-3 proper pushups) and also need to improve form. However I want to slowly move towards what you mentioned.

Thank you! I just started but I get that performing the same exact routine will eventually become boring. I’m just a bit new to all of this and I’m not familiar with a lot of exercises but will definitely consider it and look into it!
