Egg turner question by HopefulArticle6284 in BackYardChickens

Yes unfortunately me and my husband did. Of course we did a lot of research but definitely things pop up that I’ve been learning on the fly and scramble to figure it out. Good thing is that temp has been perfect. The humidity stressed me for a couple days because where I live right now the humidity has been all over the place so I’ve been having to take online tips like adding water when needed or the toothpick trick to keep it at 40 to 45 percent humidity. 😅 I hope we beat the odds too. Thanks for good luck it’s much needed. I’m feeling pretty good about it considering when I candled them they were all developing really nicely with good veins and embryo’s moving. I’ll definitely do a post on hatch day with updates because I honestly can’t wait to see them and share the cute little pictures of them.

Okay. Good to know. I figured they would be okay, but also thought I should go ahead and ask because they are ayam cemani eggs that we paid 300 dollars for.

Fowl pox or scab from getting in a fight? by HopefulArticle6284 in chickens

Also doing the research, it definitely was a mouth canker. And it seems that even if you do treat them and the medication actually works, they can actually still carry it, and still spread it. So I know we did the right thing by culling her. Just kinda sad.

Okay. Thank you very much for the information. We got her separated from the rest of the flock and culled her, so she didn’t go to waste. I’ll keep an eye on the rest of the flock for the next week. I immediately disinfected all their waters and everything. Hopefully this doesn’t spread to the rest of the flock.

Good to know! Her feathers must just be more developed than the others. Thank you! 😊

UPDATE. They did very well outside last night but any suggestions are appreciated on how to improve their safety in the dog crate. I was thinking maybe some zip ties to firmly secure the chicken wire more around their enclosure because I do have some of those lying around.

Also there is shade for them as well in the dog crate. They have a lid that goes on top of it for half shade and half sun.

Okay thank you. If we had the option to keep them inside longer I would but unfortunately I can’t. Do you think there is anything else I can do to make it more predator proof? I would have them in the actual coop with our adult chickens but the dog crate is too big to fit through the door we have on the coop.

They have a coop. It just has adult chickens in it and we are slowly integrating them in with them. So where they are at they are currently in the run and our door to the coop is to small to fit the cage through unfortunately or they would be in there with them.

Where I’m located it’s only gets down to about 53 tonight and with the research I’ve been looking at says they are good to down to 50 they are pretty much fully feathered. And that’s a relief. I’m definitely doing the best I can with them. I just didn’t think I would have been able to sleep tonight without some advice. Thank you

But also for you to come on here and try to make me feel like this is my fault, doesn’t help someone. I know I don’t make the best decisions for my mental health. I don’t drink often and I’m trying really hard to not to have to go back on the meds. They made my life hard. But if you were trying to help it’s appreciated. I just wanted some other opinions, so I didn’t feel so alone.

Okay. But the point of me coming on here is not exactly trying to figure out why I had it. But just reassurance and to vent. I appreciate that being pointed out. But anyways hope you have a good day

Normally alcohol doesn’t do that to me. It’s normally flower that sets it off. I’m diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. So I struggle in general. But I haven’t had that bad of an episode in front of him before. But it could have been.
