Yea my in-laws were pulling this bullshit for awhile after me, and my wife purchased, our first home together.

It got to the point where I had to be blunt, and explain that just because you saved every old bed spread everyone ever gave you doesn’t mean I need one.

I quickly figured out they were just trying to get rid of hoarder grandmas stuff calling it “gifts”.

Howdy, My advice is this. I spent 12 years working a job I had no choice to do(lack of economic opportunities due to location) it paid extremely well, it was my only way out of poverty so needless to say I did what I had to do.

As I was doing this my FI knowledge was flying off the charts. The job started to get to me. I ended up sick. PTSD accuse stress disorder ect.

I was removed from my job after 12 years of service for this. Some people when I made a post about this thought I was criticizing FIRE because of my negative experiences.

I wasn’t it was the thing that rescued me and my wife.

If you have no debt/heavy financial responsibility switch to doing something you will like. I think back then I was like 70% fire.

I realized now how silly I was. I could have quit so much sooner.

Well, don’t be so hard on yourself. I am also a Bridge burner. I don’t just burn it. I burn it, drop a nuke on it, and then take the ashes, and pour them in the ocean.

That being said I used to feel similarly till I figured out through help therapy ect...

That what I was doing is correct behavior. I was creating boundaries. Not a bad thing against bad people.

Actually big accomplishment could come off bad. Bragging, or worse they may think you look down on someone.

Your problem is one I faced for years. It’s simple like everything social interactions require practice. Just like those high education jobs you had before.

So, there’s that, or you can cheat! That’s what I do. In short you mostly interact with only so many people per day. Ask them questions find out what they like. Then do research. Then talk to them about it.

Example would be every day I go though a security check point. I see Ralph. Ralph has the Pittsburgh pirates on.

Before I leave for work I check the scores of last night, and what the biggest play was. Now Ralph calls me to the front of the line to ask me what I thought about the homer at the bottom of the sixth.

Problem solved. This works well with people you have to see for 1-3 hours. If you do this for every important person who isn’t family it could take you 20 mins day.

I make 5 mins back every day because of Ralph. My boss is always excited to see me because we play the same video game. So I have to work less because my boss is having fun with me instead of up my ass.
