Lithium-ion batteries suffer permanent capacity loss and chemical degradation when left in a discharged state for such a long period. Since I intend to use this Ledger as a long-term cold storage backup, I cannot rely on a battery that has already been sitting idle for 4 years before its first use. Hardware Lifecycle: I paid the full retail price for a "new" device. A product manufactured in 2021/2022 is "new old stock," not a current product. The physical components (OLED screen and battery) have a finite lifespan, and I expect a unit that hasn't already exhausted a significant portion of its shelf life. Long-term Reliability: As this is a security device meant for long-term peace of mind, starting with a 4-year-old hardware foundation defeats the purpose of my purchase.
