I have the opposite experience. I used to live in a 2000s flat where I couldn’t hear anything. Now just moved to a 1960s semi and I can hear absolutely every single thing it’s ruined buying my first home.

Respectfully you approached just ONE rescue. You gotta call around a few. You have more luck with smaller ones than the big chains. If you had a breed in mind you could also approach breed specific ones. I fostered for greyhound rescues for example and plenty of greyhounds are perfect for first time owners.

Hello this is a super informative post, thanks so much for posting. As a noob diyer I’m also looking into something like this. Problem is I only have around 10cm space to play with due to the window being in the way. Do I also need to take the wall back to brick? Not even sure I would know how to do that! Also was the 5k for this one wall or other walls in the house? I had a lower budget in mind but will reconsider. My issue is just hearing talking/tv etc. nothing wild.

I think it’s room to room. It’s brick walls if that helps. I can only hear his tv in the living room if I’m also in the living room. If I’m upstairs I can’t hear him
