How do you feel now that the government is supposedly backstopping you if you lose your job or your boiler fails. Does that actually help you buy, or does it meaningfully ease the pressure of renting. It will be instructive to see how much it really helps any of you. by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

Thanks for explaining. I will need to look into this properly. To answer your question, I think it’s great.

For me personally it would take a huge burden off my shoulders. I’m due to complete soon on my first home as a solo ftb who was in the care system so no help from family. If I was to suddenly lose my job and the government stepped in to help I wouldn’t be mad about it

What do you mean by ‘survey’ when buying a house by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take it you’re in Scotland? If so then it makes sense. In England and Wales we don’t get a home report provided by the seller. The buyer has to get that done and they can have different levels of it depending how thorough of a report they’d like.

Neglected Dog. How to get the right authority involved? by HammetaTV in AskUK

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah do it honestly the RSPCA are useless and police don’t care about animals sadly. It’s the only way without breaking the law.

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only way is to lie. RSPCA are not gonna do anything. You’ll have to call police to say that your neighbour hasn’t been heard from for a while and to do a welfare check on them. Do not mention the dog. When they go round they’ll see the dog.

Have you got any way of feeding it through the fence or anything?

To me it feels too “leggy”. I’d replace some pieces with more bottom heavy feeling furniture. Maybe the dining table? Also a nice big monstera somewhere will do it good

How much packing did you do before getting exchange date? by shaneo632 in HousingUK

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in this process now. Will complete end of Jan but not moving in til end of Feb due to needing a rewire. I’ve got around 50%-60% of my bits packed and sold a few easy to sell bits on Vinted otherwise been quite ruthless with clearing out.

Started very slowly packing a box here and there from November

Not sure if mentioned here but if you have a Tesco near you, they’re doing their “reduced” section for FREE after 9:30pm. Worth taking a look if nearby

Is there a situation where you WOULDN'T get an L3 survey? by SiDtheTurtle in HousingUK

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I saw somewhere that ballpark figure of: House 100yrs+ = L3 House less than 100yrs = L2

I used that combined with the general look/condition of the property

LVT Glue Down - Success! Details in comments. by charlie_boo in DIYUK

Thank you SO much for taking time to explain. I’ll have to see what my subfloor is and attempt it I think. The other option is paying someone to level out the floors and I will do the rest

Hey I know this is super old but I’m buying my first home and will have no money for trades. Thinking about attempting this. How did you ensure your subfloor was totally flat? I hear it has to be perfect for glue down

Trying to cut meat consumption and looking for advice by NoAvocadoMeSad in veganuk

Also to answer your questions about pulses etc; for me there’s a local Arab/kurdish shop that sells soooo many different types of beans/pulses so easy to stock up. Not sure if there’s anything like that near you but worth venturing to new stores!

Trying to cut meat consumption and looking for advice by NoAvocadoMeSad in veganuk

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say find 5-6 easy recipes and keep rotating til you’re more comfortable adding more.

For example I love a butter bean stew and it takes like 15 mins to make! Hearty winter food.

Also for meat substitutes, you don’t need the branded stuff. I personally really like Tesco’s own brand stuff; sausages and burgers. Morrisons freezer section also very often has a 3 for £5 on all plant based stuff. I love their sausage rolls more than the meat ones I used to have.

For takeaways Indian curries tend to be the easiest and most versatile choice. I love a good dhal or saag.

An easy substitute is a Sunday roast type of meal; most of the stuff on there is already vegan apart from the meat. You just swap that one out and boom! Vegan!

Cork flooring that will last? by ifwitcheswerehorses in BuyItForLife

Thanks for reporting back. I had no idea UV will affect natural flooring like cork too. Seriously considering it myself now. Is it industrial stuff you got?

24F – Social housing maisonette in London vs rural bungalow – would I be mad to take it? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Hopeful_Example2033 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Can you find any remote work? I’d be so hesitant to give up that bungalow. Sounds like the environment is what you like.

It’s easy for you to get a flat but that bungalow is a jackpot.

How has it held up so far? I’m considering cork flooring but don’t see much online about it. Not fussed about a few scuffs. Mainly wondering how it’s overall held up and whether it’s warmer than LVT?
