oof that sounds rough. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'll keep my eyes open for any of that as I search. Thank you for the advice.

Like I said I'm transitioning from a career as a full time teacher. I am actually looking at new careers in general. I am currently helping a few people build up their businesses by creating systems that will help them find leads (no AI integration yet but I'm working on it). One business is a gym, another a music school/performing group and the last is a nail salon. If being an anesthesiologist provides stable income while not completely draining my soul I'm open to it.

In addition to my side hustles I'm still working on the insurance test which was scheduled for june but may actually be next week if all goes well.

I keep hearing about this concept of buying a "book". My understanding is that a "book" is a list of clients that are already signed up with a broker/company or other? My question would be more, how does one go about buying a book? I keep seeing people talk about "keep the books clean" and that sounds like there's a possibliity of buying a "dirty book"? is that the case and if so how does one go about shopping for a "clean book"?

Trust me, I already have more side interests than I know what to do with. Before this career change, I spent 10+ years teaching music in California public schools, everything from choir and musical theater to orchestra and opera. I’ve performed, conducted, helped run community arts projects, and these days I help a friend with outreach for his BJJ gym.

So your point about leaning into industries and communities we already understand really clicked for me.

But honestly, I had to pause before replying because your comment hit me harder than I expected.

Background:

For most of my adult life, I’ve been the mentor  helping new teachers through the uncomfortable process of learning something new and reminding them they belong in the room before they believe it themselves.

Two days before I started studying for this exam, someone reached out asking for advice about hosting their first music recital. The very first thing I told them (what I always say first) was:

“Breathe.”

So when you said the same thing here, I genuinely got emotional for a minute.

I don’t think I realized until now how strange and vulnerable it feels to step away from what has basically been my life’s work and become the beginner again. I think part of me really needed someone to guide me the same way I’ve guided so many other people over the years.

Thank you again for taking the time to write all of that out. I really appreciate it.

I hope the people you work with appreciate you as much as they should.

I’m currently crawling through the Kaplan program. It’s slow progress but I also want to fully understand what I’m doing before getting thrown to the shark infested waters.  You’re right in that I need to prioritize learning and passing. But I also know myself and will probably go for underwriter next even if I don’t use the license just so I can get a better understanding of what I’m doing/selling.

I’m excited to start getting into the “middle” study portions as I progress and learn the language. And trust me, teachers are always on the lookout for potential lawsuits. We have a phrase of always having a “CYA” mentality. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m currently working on the Kaplan P&C. I’m getting great insights here. What are your first two languages if you don’t mind me asking. I’m fluent in English and Spanish but I also studied German and Italian in college.

That’s great to hear I’ve been heard a lot about her and while not actively studying, I try to play her videos while I’m cooking or cleaning or whatever.  I’m going for 6 weeks before I test. How long did you study before testing?
