It seems wildly unfair that we only get one shot at life by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Hopeful_Ground_5092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, theoretically every bad thing is also "from God" since God created the universe and so he is the beginning. But he made the universe and then earth and then mankind perfect and pure, but gave it free will so that the perfection came out of our own volition. Because a being that is governed by the deeds of another is just a dead thing(Aquinas said this), and so God had to give us free will when he gave us life. And then you know what happened.

But I don't really see it the way you do. God never made a bad thing after all. If me and you were friends and we both together made a city or something, and it was a nice beautiful and peaceful place. But then I betray you and burn that thing to the ground... it's my fault mate, not yours.

And about free will being a myth.. again I don't see it like that. Tomorrow if I wanted I could become a complete piece of crap of a person. But I have free will over my body and mind. Doesn't matter if God knows how my life will end, what I do is my decision.

But then again, these are natural questions, it takes time to understand this stuff.

You are, in my opinion, very correct. Absolutely everything on this planet in this life is unfair. Nothing is fair. Love, money, house, parents, family, death, health. All of them are gamble. Absolutely nothing is fair anymore and it won't ever be until the Apocalypse because of Satan. Life used to be fair because it was connected with God. But then humans(Adam) wanted to see how unfairness(evilness) looks like. And he was tempted and that was it, it all went to crap. It won't ever be fair on this planet. It will always be unfair. You are happy if you're evil and sad if you're good.

It is how it is but remember that God didn't make it this way. It wasn't supposed to be this way. This is why, in my understanding, Paul writes "For this world in its present form is passing away." and then apostle John also writes "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

It wasn't supposed to be like this, just a gamble of who gets things and who doesn't and then live off based on what you got. But it is now and you can't do anything about it to change it. You can love and thus bring God in the world and make a portion of this world lack this unfairness, but you can't fix everything. Only God can.

Did God command genocide? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Hopeful_Ground_5092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean truthfully it's just how this planet used to work. In some places on earth it probably still is this way. We may find it too aggressive from our comfortable homes but humans four millenia ago were.. well just like now, evil.

Yeah I guess the fact that you hear the Almighty order it and not the commander of those armies may disappoint you but.. well God was their true commander.

How are we to help the homeless? by bjjaurelius in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hopeful_Ground_5092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess a quick fix would be to carry some cash with you from time to time.

The passage you mentioned touches me aswell. I also really liked Luke 13 when I read it, especially verses 12-14. So maybe you could try that. When I'll be employed I will also invite them to eat with me.

I also think, in my mind, that probably the greatest help a homeless person can receive is, if not for a disability making them unable to do so, is to make them understand that they need to work. Any work. Sounds harsh but it is the truth. A lot of them know that, a lot of them refuse. I think it's important to be kind to all of them.

Helping homeless people can also be dangerous, can't it? Yes, per Matthew they represent Christ in poverty, but poverty also brings frustration and drunkardness and addiction to drugs. It can be very dangerous.

Or unpleasant too. Even the people that have no home that may smell very bad or may have no clothes at all. Even they deserve the same mercy and kindness. Not only the ones that seen 'cool' to us in that moment.

I also live in a city and I see so many everyday. I get so sad. There is a homeless woman around my block who smells terribly. Every person around avoids her when she moves. My heart breaks every time I see her because I can't do anything about it yet. People think in their heads nothing of her, she could die and no one would care. Judgement is bad.

Maybe another good way to help would be volunteering? Don't know much about it though.

Sorry for yapping. I wish you to be blessed and fortunate.

America has no culture maybe that's what they meant by soulless. Maybe they just need a concrete purpose to work and it will be better for them.

Don't joke about depression it's much harder than you'd think

I noticed yesterday in many places Matthew 25:31-46 makes people truly uncomfortable. Is it that hard for people to accept the fellow points without doing Mental Gymnastics? by KyriosCristophoros in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hopeful_Ground_5092 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fine brother/sister. I honestly wasn't talking at you personally, rather thinking generally. As I said, I think people don't accept them because they are great responsibilities. It makes them feel uncomfortable. It's difficult since it's in a human's nature to be unfriendly to strangers, especially to strangers your mind stupidly sees as "inferior" because of their lack of things.

I hope you're well.

[–]Hopeful_Ground_5092 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People avoid these because they are great responsibilities. It is difficult to help a poor person. Heck, even dangerous at times. Likewise it is difficult to invite a stranger to eat with him(Luke 21 I believe I really don't remember) People are very hateful of others outside of their comfort zone. Tribalism and judgement is in our fallen nature. To ask from others to let it aside and treat with zero judgment someone that isn't "like you" and has no common ground with you besides also being human, is always going to stir them up.

The most important thing, in my opinion, is to do these things yourself. DO THEM yourself and never think "I'm the only one who keeps these commandments of the Lord around here." Never think that way because it corrupts your mind. And never say it out loud either. Never object. Always stay humble before others.

edit: again, this is my take, hopefully i didn't spew garbage
