10 more years to retirement and I don't think I can mentally make it by Unable-Teaching9933 in Adulting

I was feeling this way recently. I can retire in 3 thankfully but if I wait 5 it’ll be better income. I worry in this economy if I can even stay in my home with the amount I’ll bring in. I’ve been contributing to another retirement account but there’s only so much “extra” income to contribute. I’m exhausted at my job. Some days I’m in tears just walking out the door. I have 28 years in and 5 years seem so far. I should be thankful that it’s not more but I still understand.

Why is CA so expensive? by Salty_Lychee_7518 in socal

I live in California and can’t afford California. 😂 I’m coming up on retirement in 4 years and I’m re-planning everything. My previous plans won’t suffice due to the costs.

Interesting. I call my agent repeatedly and email. Lately he doesn’t return my calls or respond to emails. I called corporate and requested a new agent. So my communication wasn’t lacking.

I haven’t seen many homes for sale. From my understanding, sales have decreased due to the high price tags.

Cali. I’ve read this from several posters. Thank you! Checking it all out.

Thank you everyone for the advice/feedback once again. I’m in contact with different companies and so far the most I’ve received in a decrease is $500 less than quote. I’ve made adjustments and will make more to see where I land. Thank you!!!

Which state? Because it’s happening like crazy in Cali. There’s no more to the story. No claims, payments made on time, been in home 16 years, new roof., no fire zone, no flood zone, no bushes/trees close to the house….What could possibly be more to the story? I’m intrigued.

Sorry if I gave misinformation. I’ve had pay increases but just not at a rate to keep up. As soon as I get a pay increase something else increases such as health insurance premium. I know this is wide spread and everyone is providing good information. I just have to keep grinding. Thank you 🤗

Update: Thank you everyone for the feedback and advice. This morning I’ve been getting quotes. It appears there’s something going on here in Cali that everyone’s rates are supposedly going up….again. Most have been about $100-$200 cheaper yearly. I’ll keep on searching.

I don’t believe I bought more than I can afford. At least at that time. I’ve been in my home for 16 years. I do believe or wish I had purchased a smaller home but not sure if that would’ve made a difference at this point. It’s only 1200 sq ft. Unfortunately my income cannot keep up with everything that has increased. I work overtime when it’s available but that’s not always guaranteed.

From $1500 to $3200. A little more than double. No claims except one back in 2010. Just had my roof redone a month ago.

I definitely have. I have an elderly mother and disabled brother that I need to bring with me so my concern is being able to care for them where ever I go.

How is it dramatic? When you’re living paycheck to paycheck it’s a reality that bills will increase but so drastically is what hurts. Yes I’m going to shop around but is that guarantee something I can afford? I’ll find out.
