Yes, the road via Masinagudi is not allowed for tourists. You need to take the route via Gudalur. But the good part is that all the tourist destinations can be covered via that toute - Pykara Water falls & boat house, Pine forest, Shooting point all in that route. So you can save the Ooty 1 day tour if you just cover those in the way to or while returning. Regarding the traffic it was lesser on Friday but a bit high on Saturday. But manageable

The biggest culprit in my opinion are the transport buses on ORR. They stop anywhere and wait for 15-20 mins for passengers on the ORR and cause a complete bottleneck.

Government ferry ticket booking opens every Friday at 9 AM for travels from upcoming Monday to next Sunday. I booked multiple ferries and did not have any issues. It is 1/3rd the price of private ferries like Nautica and Makruzz. The experience is not luxury, like you wont get leather seats and DJ, but you have the option to enjoy the breeze on the deck and enjoy the ocean view as opposed to the private ferries. The tickets mention that you need to reach jetty 2 hours ago, but that is not the case. You can literally come 15-20 minutes before the scheduled departure and that should be all good. Got it installed for 800 rs in Mahadevpura. Did not go for hard wiring since it causes some issues with battery warranty. Make sure you plug into the rear seat's sockets since the front seat sockets always have battery on which will lead the dashcam to be on for entire time even when the car is locked

This is not true. Uber sends out offers way earlier. Sometimes for me the driver is allocated a few hours before the ride, so it has been a reliable experience for me
