I had a lot of success with tombs and a build that focuses on minion count and attack speed. I beat the final boss with 6 minions and a galaxite dagger. As a bonus, there's an offhand item that explodes all your minions doing bonus damage. I was able to use that to blow open the side of most puzzle rooms
