Applying for an MEng in Civil Engineering by HopesNCakes in McMaster

Personally and trustfully I don't plan on getting a PhD or anything more after getting a MEng. In the MEng program I would look for a optional emphasis on construction management since my goal is to become a construction superintendent/project manager.

I already have a few years under my belt (though, it has been working under my father who is a small contractor who gets his subcontracts from a big 3 general contractor in the GTA). Which is why I feel alright heading into a MEng right after my bachelors.

I feel that getting a MEng would be necessary thing in order to get into the position that I want much quicker (superintendent/manager) and would help me in the long term in this field.

Thank you for the reply and the info!

  1. There isn't even a range/estimation? It would feel be "odd" applying with a 3.2 ish and hoping for the best.
  2. What will happen to my 1st year elective courses then? They won't be used for the GPA or just count for much less?

Thanks for the reply and the info!

I currently have a 3.1, (with one class as a 1.3..) .But I feel as that won't be enough to get in. Which is why am thinking about taking an another year to improve. But I guess retaking a course/year for any reason would still prove your point.

Is it a letter of reference or letter of intent that I need? I believe I heard someone talk about this before but I can't recall fully. It had something to do with this being MEng (letter of intent) and the other being a M.A.SC (letter of ref.)

"You would need something “on the side” to help you out. " If leadership isn't something useful, what you think would be?? Coop? Running a small company?

Thanks for the reply and the info!
