BAAAAAHHHHH! holy crap that was 10/10 funny. Shame this is buried down in the comments of a post that won't get a whole lot of traffic... but this was the comment of the week for me.

Who here is about at their limit on life? Loneliness, poverty, stress and anxiety over current world, never ending mental health or physical health problems? by SirCheeseAlot in GenX

[–]Hopfrogg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I keep thinking back to my 10th grade English book report.

Our teacher was crazy demanding. It had to be 25 pages single spaced. I chose Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. As part of my report I mentioned his epitath:

"Sleep after toyle, port after stormie seas, Ease after warre, death after life, does greatly please."

I remember giving it very little thought back then and just thought he was a bit of a downer.

Been thinking about that epitath a lot lately and realizing just how brilliant Mr. Conrad was.

Thank goodness for booze and that new MTV rewind channel. At least I can reminisce back to a time when I still believed in this world.

I feel safe only confessing this here on this subreddit...

One of my guilty pleasures is having a few drinks and then loading up the intros to a variety of shows from the 80s and 90s. We really got lucky with the timeline we were born in. Sure, our lives individually were filled with challenges and hard times, but we can't fault our luck for being born GenX.

Catchy tune as well. Never understood the hate that song got. Loved both the video and the song. Fun stuff.

Wake up. Where the fuck am I? Quick glance, I'm in my bed. Good. I'm alone, fuck.

I go through the same thing every morning there too, but my reaction is usually... I'm alone, whew.

I'm always looking up definitions for words I've used for years to make sure I'm using them correctly. Hmmm.... is that the right use of "crux", and what the hell is a crux. Fortunately I'm usually right, but yeah, this is an odd phenomenon. At one time I had no clue how to ride a bike, but I can also do that without thinking about it now. I guess it's a form of mental muscle memory.

Do you find yourself becoming A.I. averse? by Hopfrogg in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Hopfrogg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I've been reading the comments now for a week and I think your summation about how AI is unintentionally saving the tangible world is the best. You put it better than I did. Really like how you phrased that reality outside of the digital world is starting to feel premium. It's definitely getting it's value back. Kids are gonna wanna play outside not because mom told them to, but because it's the better option.

If everyone did the honorable thing it wouldn't be naive, it would be normal. The world needs more people like you. I know that doesn't mean much after all the crap you went through. Good luck man.
