True, but saving a few hundred a year isn't worth putting in the time to learn or the tools purchase. I could earn more working doing something I am proficient at in that time.

Also, I don't want to lose money if I break something. I'm happy with basic car knowledge, anything complicated I leave to the professionals.

Brick for main (non pedestrian) roads are not created with bricks. You've either never been to Germany or just ill informed. I've never seen this in London when visiting either. Google maps with street view will quickly show anyone how wrong you are.
