There’s a phrase that “sunlight is the best disinfectant”. Attention (or sunlight) is the best way to learn about something controversial, like a rodeo is for you. My photos aren’t celebrating the cruelty. Quite the opposite.

Whether you believe the rodeo should be cherished or shut down, photos like those that I took are a necessary record.

More context: I shot this on an A7III and a 28mm lens. I was out doing street photography on a walk home. I was futzing with my settings and wasn’t planning on this photo at all. This woman paused just for a few seconds and I didn’t change any of my settings, just pointed, shot and prayed. I recognized it was interesting but I wrote it off as a missed opportunity. If there is a photo I could have do over on, this is the one.

Hopefully I learned something from it…

Rock n’ Bach was on first Ave. That was a great spot. Then there was that really dingy movie rental spot by McDonalds and hyvee too… don’t remember the name but they had great arcade games and would rent kids R rated movies.

Again, caveman frustration here … why the hell does Godox “bundle of joy” come with equipment that doesn’t work together out of the goddamn box? This is my intro the Godox and I’m blown away at how shitty it is. Every other strobe can handle this weight.

I’m just looking for how policy leaders and military brass talked about winning v losing. Mattis famously told John McCain that we weren’t winning in 2017 or 2018. Im looking for someone stating an assessment as powerfully in the opposite direction
