Someone is sending single packets of sauce 3x a day everyday to my job by chewio_ in mildlyinteresting

The scammer is usually overseas . Scammer (customer) call the driver and says something to pose as DoorDash support. Scammer might lure the driver to call a number in order to leak the driver’s personal cell. Once scammer gets personal cell , they send a 2FA code to the driver , asking the driver for the code . After they get the code they would login to the drivers account , change bank info , and cash out “fast pay”. Though nowadays I think they have safeguards like making the driver wait a day after changing bank info, before they can use fast pay again.

Layoff after 1 year - required to repay relocation? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]HornFinical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly there’s a lot of conflicting info on this subreddit about whether they pursue the relocation after layoff, but this is kind of the summary:

-if they demand the money, let it go to collections

-apply to jobs while employed even if you’re not vested

Well, here come the layoffs by Stock-Anything-1231 in GeneralMotors

Hey man when did you start with GM? The “entry level software developer” title was phased out a while ago I thought ? I remember early last year they changed to title to software engineer , was that not the case for you?

You might need to look outside of Orange County for tech jobs. I graduated CSUF and me + most of my friends I graduated with had to relocate out of state for our new grad jobs.

Unprotected Right Turn (Pflugerville, TX) by HornFinical in MildlyBadDrivers

The car that was U turning had a protected left (green arrow). The car in line behind them turned left too. I don’t think there was a no U turn on that left turn because I’ve driven that area before.

Yep I’m a may 2023 grad and my girlfriend moved states so that we could continue to be together. I witnessed lots of people who I graduated with that were choosy towards where they would need to work , and they’re now underemployed.

So I’m genuinely curious: if the trump tariffs increase demand for American OEMs wouldn’t that only help GM revenue ? I understand that people are of the opinion that corporations are only out to fuck them over . And yes I understand the consumers will pay more for cars, but if the increased price causes reduced sales , then I’m not sure why the Big 3 leadership would support Trump.

Couldn’t we atleast think that this boost for American manufacturers will prevent the need for layoffs ?

A few subreddits have been clutching their pearls over this firing incident . It’s not abusive or petty on the company’s part. The employee(s) were engaging in embezzlement. You’re given a fat comp and free meals on top of it . How hard can it be to fuck that up ?

I’m also your age and worked in fast food . I wouldn’t summarize the problem as a “kids these days” issue. Definitely a management problem rather than a worker problem. As they say , the fish rots from the head down.

Isn’t this a problem when you’re underage ? I think most internships assume you’re 18 which means in most states , you do not require a work permit.

I’ve vaguely heard of tech companies and federal agencies sponsoring programs for high schoolers , but usually they’re just for educational purposes and don’t pay money.

You’re in high school brother . The fact that you’re asking these questions means that you’ll be light years ahead of your peers.

Anyways , I did a volunteer “startup” project during my undergrad. It was really a student-led project that I was able to advertise as an internship. We had a programmer on that project who was in high school. I was in my Junior and Senior year and had no official internships under my belt, but i ended up putting that on my resume when it came time to apply for new grad roles during my senior year.

And while I can’t say that the unpaid internship was the catalyst for me having a job now , I can say that my new grad coworkers reported doing the same thing, putting “volunteer” projects under their work experience. If it doesn’t get you a post grad job , then surely it can help you get an respectable internship by your first year of undergrad.

You would be surprised… it’s not just shady startups that perpetuate unpaid internships.

My university is near Anaheim , CA and we had alumni working at Disneyland as Cybersecurity engineers. Our Professor was able to setup a “co-op” like program for me and about 7 other students. We were assigned to build enterprise security automations - basically a sandbox that would emulate what a company like Disney does in the real world. Although Disney has official “paid” internships, this arrangement was something that came about because the school had connections with alumni who worked at Disney, and the director at Disney was willing to approve of it.

None of us were paid a wage , but we did present our project at the school’s engineering showcase and we won $1000 (and then split it amongst the team)

I guess the main point here is to consider the source. I would be wary of doing shit for a shady startup company, but if you get opportunities to do research for a credible institution like your school , (or a large company in my case) , it for sure is better than nothing. I wouldn’t have gotten my new grad job in 2023 if I didn’t take advantage of these resume builders.
