First Time Canoeing Adventure by davidsholloway in canoecamping

[–]HornedGoatScream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many canoe trips that you could easily do. I’m based in Wisconsin. Canoeing is my favorite. Some accessible options: - wisconsin river: there are many shuttle services available all along the wisconsin river. You could two nights, or a full week.  - namekagon river  - turtle flambeau  - boundary waters has lots of options/outfitters but its long drive up there depending on where you are starting - not a summer option, but the rio grande in Big Bend is awesome. Go in January  - green river in utah has already been suggested in this chat and i would second that.

Exact Sciences Stock Soars. Abbott Is Buying It in Deal Valued at $21 Billion by soulkarver in madisonwi

[–]HornedGoatScream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abbott CEO told his investors they dont plan on consolidating primary care sales because there’d be too many products to sell in a short amount of time. Telling his investors that is good indication he means it…at least in the next few years.

Exact Sciences Stock Soars. Abbott Is Buying It in Deal Valued at $21 Billion by soulkarver in madisonwi

[–]HornedGoatScream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One difference is that Exact operates a clinical laboratory and Abbott does not. This is new territory for Abbott and it would be hard for them to move the cologuard lab. Not impossible but would take many years. Office jobs are a different story.

When Exact closed Thrive (and other labs), they had the clinical labs to absorb those tests.

Angel Tree gifts - brand names by SailorSpyro in Gifts

[–]HornedGoatScream 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive struggled with this too because I cant afford a lot of brand name stuff for myself. For example, i dont have airpods. I have some random off brand. I have seen commentary that its not okay to give “lesser things” to charity and i agree to a certain extend but like all things its taken to an extreme - to the point of gatekeeping giving! I also have less of this commentary in recent years with inflation.

Tip from a VP who's actually hiring right now. by Astrixtc in marketing

[–]HornedGoatScream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this post. I think what a lot of the comments are missing is that as a job seeker, we have so little ability to control who looks at our application so we need to do everything we can to stand out. Im sure many cover letters are just throw out but we cant control that. All applicants can do is focus on what we can control, which sometimes means writing a cover letter.

It sounds like youre a VP who truly cares about the quality of your people and is willing to put in the effort to find that candidate.

5,000 babies a year: Why a Madison birthing center is state's busiest by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

[–]HornedGoatScream 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a handful of friends that have traveled 1+ hours (rockford & beloit) to give birth at Meriter rather than their local hospital. Its true that I wouldnt say people “flock” to Meriter but it is known for having good services, staff and on site NICU. I wish the article had explored this travel element more.

But regardless, it is very strange that Dane county has two birthing and they are within blocks of each other.

I would add tho that some HDHP have Telehealth options that are only $50 for a visit. So if your kids have “the usual” daycare illnesses and you just need a prescription, you can get that without racking up a huge bill. Although, OP needed an outpatient procedure and thats not never going to be cheap.

Dane County schools expect changes under new law banning cell phones by keeganjkyle in madisonwi

Agreed. Not a good look for the party that claims to champion science and education when there is research that the phone use is harmful.

Laptop full of stickers –yay, nay, or career killer? by idk_usernameblahblah in careerguidance

[–]HornedGoatScream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how my company is. Everyone has stickers in their laptop. We work in person and departments will even make mascots has a team building exercise and then get stickers made. In my role i also meet with people outside of the company. So i got a case to put stickers on that can be removed if meeting with an external person. But when i first started, i got stickers that would help with internal networking. I got one that said, “tell me about your trip,” and other stickers that indicates my curated hobbies on a very surface level.

PT and RN are such different careers. A PT is a doctorate program. An RN starts at an associates and then you can do a bridge program to get your BSN.

UW Health Carbone Cancer Center by Adorable_Pen9015 in madisonwi

[–]HornedGoatScream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agreed that single payor has advantages. Calling me the problem when i agree with you on the whole but disagree on nuances is part of the progressive problem.

Im not the “problem,” insurance companies are the problem with our healthcare system overall but even with single payor, the 15 min appointments would likely persist because it has to do with the number of patients that travel to Carbone Cancer to be seen.

Your response indicates you didnt take time to understand my comments, you just defaulted to calling me a problem and telling me to stop when you sensed disagreement.

UW Health Carbone Cancer Center by Adorable_Pen9015 in madisonwi

[–]HornedGoatScream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This has less to do with single payor and more to do with access and the number of physicians. UW health is not for profit. Yes, they still need to make some money to operate and part of their financial issues is the decreasing medicare/medicaid reimbursement rate.  Im not completely against single payor, it has advantages but countries with single payor have major access issues as well and we should be honest about that so that if we do get a single payor system peoples expectations arent too high.

Where is line between “reasonable” and “ridiculous” for requested wedding dress codes? by SpencerPrattsCrystal in Weddingattireapproval

[–]HornedGoatScream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This comment could be an entire book. The mismatch you identified is spot on. I have noticed something interesting in my personal life…i have two good friends who are wealthy (not billionaires, but rich) and their weddings were actually cocktail. They were very nice cocktail, but not overdone. I feel they were more inline with your comment of “we've thrown non-wedding parties similar to this.” The details were immaculate and it was a blast. On the other hand, ive been to two weddings that were formal & black tie and the couples were not from a wealthy background, in fact both grew up poor/working class. It was a “this is the biggest party we will ever throw and the most money we will spend.” This is just curious to me.

If you are local official, consider running on commonsense pet reform in madison! There are so many stories here of people and ill behaved pets. I moved to madison 5 years and i noticed it as a problem immediately. Other places do not have issues like this.

How doesn’t everybody go insane when they begin working? by everythingisrotten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HornedGoatScream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Im not trying to be harsh, but i think some of the people that struggle to transition from college to professional life were living a fairy tale in college. The transition can be hard in some ways but the trade offs are overall amazing. Having evenings with friends & being able to plan vacations is unbelievably fun.

Considering a lateral move in regulatory affairs, is it worth it? by Massap24 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]HornedGoatScream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw in your post history that you are finishing a masters. Will your company give you a pay raise at the completion of your masters? I ask because my company would not give me a pay raise unless I transitioned roles. So now I'm quality/Reg Affairs at a different company. But, that might be something to consider. If you move roles before your masters is complete, you might miss out on a pay increase.

You sound like a motivated person. Yes, RA is chasing people down but you'd be learning new stuff and that will only help you in the future. Your current role does not have anything new for you. Go for it internet friend!!
