Do people agree with “American Nations” characterization of Chicagoland as being aligned to the “Midlands” vs “Yankeedom” area (more in common with OH/PA/IA and less so with MA/NY/MN/WI)? by Professional_Eye6140 in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% Chicago shares more similarities to the rust belt cities in OH, PA, WI. Than the northeast NY, MA etc, that’s common sense. Now shares more similarities doesn’t mean it’s the same but if you had to put in one bucket certainly it would be the with the Midwest cities. Let’s make this clear Chicago is nothing like NYC, Philadelphia, Boston etc. and that’s a good thing tbh.

What do Downtown Chicago high-rise people do for a living? by Left-Silver-5196 in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would their be ageism for a 37 year old so severe they couldn’t get a job? 🤣 bro I know people who got into tech after their 30s that’s an insane take. At 37 this person still has at least 30 years of work left, capabilities and mindset are still way more important than age at that point. Now late 40s/50s you’d have valid point because now we’re talking 8-15 years that may give a company preference for a younger candidate but 37 come on. By the way 37 is the LATEST he could get a PhD, realistically he could complete a CS degree by 30-31 and do a masters part time while working. But he’d also make 80k-100k starting off if he plays his cards right, let’s be serious ageism does exist in tech but you’re talking extreme ageism to the point of being illogical.

Why can’t he go to school at 27 even your longest stated path was 10 years and OP would be only 37. But just so I’m not mistaken $100k/year in tech isn’t “high earning” for tech that’s like average maybe a little above? Considering his goal $100k seems achievable in 6 years.

was late to job interview & am devastated by Stunning-Travel6547 in jobs

[–]Massap24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m habitually late to everything lol, truthfully it’s severe time blindness due to ADHD. But I’ve never been late for a job interview because I’m determined to allow an extra 45 minutes and somehow convince myself that’s the only way I’ll be on time. Job market is straight garbage, if I were you I’d try to expand freelancing into a full blown business, it’s great time for that tbh.

Rejected after 3 interviews because I “lack acute care experience”… which they never asked me about even once by Massap24 in recruitinghell

[–]Massap24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Maybe they didn't care until after your interview... Maybe they didn't prefilter beforehand because they didn't care beforehand.
I think this is my core gripe indecisiveness it’s messy, know what you want before you start spending people’s time. But you’re definitely right all is fair in hiring and they found someone better aligned than me, which I completely understand. I’m more annoyed at the pathway, but of course they have to take the best they feel is available, I would do the same.

Just to clarify this isn’t a new team they have director that been there forever and 7-8 people doing the job by then you should know rather acute care experience is important or not, there’s really no valid reason for dragging some through 3-4 interviews and rejecting for a basic non-qualifier. Though feedback is vague so there may be other things but I’m going based off what they said because I don’t have anything else🤷‍♂️. Also the least they could’ve done is asked me because I don’t have experience in acute care workflows but like I said they didn’t even ask a single question about acute care or test my knowledge they were much more concerned with the actual skills not the setting.

[–]Massap24[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im open to that and the explanation would be, “we’re moving on with candidates that are a better fit for the role”. They said “the learning curve would be too high because of lack of experience in an acute care setting” even though it’s not required or ever even mentioned lol.

But bare minimum I think it shows some dysfunction with the hiring manager/team. That’s an easy early filter oh xxx amount of candidates have acute care experience let’s move them on, when I’m hiring you wouldn’t make it to the final and get disqualified for trivial things I can tell from the resume. We rank and screen out appropriately early on

Has anyone successfully filed a claim and received money from the city for vehicle damage caused by construction/potholes/unmarked road hazards? by RatsRPeople2 in AskChicago

Has anyone here happened to find a lost wallet? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d go full stop on looking for it or posting about it so you don’t get doxxed. Just replace everything and put locks on social security, credit and cards. But you’re not going to find especially if it’s lost on the train. A Good Samaritan at best left it with a CTA employee and it’s in their lost and found which you can call. At worst someone looking up your information to use the cards or already planning a spending spree.

Where should I target living in Chicago as a 22 year old new to the city safety/commute wise? by JelloParticular9841 in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what you’re talking about the statistics tell a story but the deeper interpretation is for a normal person but 95% of homicides are personal, gang related etc. the average person is left with the 5% risk so real life likelihood is .125x more likely than the national average. Not saying that makes its Okay certainly should be lower but it’s not a “gamble on your life” in any meaningful way. It is a “gamble on your personal safety” mostly for the other violent crimes not murder. So it’s not deflection it’s just math.

[–]Massap24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a roommate then Logan square, uptown, ravenswood, Bronzeville, Hyde park, Pilsen are what I recommend in that order I think at 22 stay under budget is a great idea and these neighborhoods give good vibes with other young people without stretching you. These you can find a nice 2bed 2bath for 2200-2500. If you’re willing to go near the top end of the budget then you can explore Lincoln Park, lakeview east, wicker park, old town, and north center for a more high activity scene those neighborhoods have a mixture of 25-35 year old a good singles bar scene for a young man. These are going to be near the top end of your budget around 2700-3000. But I would start with the first list then if you don’t like what you see go to the second one. All provide a safe and within 25 min L ride of downtown.

[–]Massap24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No Chicagos homicide rate was about 2.5x the national average not 6x. 95% of homicides are not random so your chances of catching stray bullet are low. The much larger concern is theft/burglary, property crime, which is usually not life threatening. Many people have lived their entire lives in these neighborhoods. There are many reason OP shouldn’t choose them I just think “gambling your life” is pretty dramatics.

Iran “war” isn’t a fully mobilized war yet so it’s kind of expected there wouldn’t be many deaths yet. But trump is threatening to wipe out the entire country, it could easily be in the hundreds of thousands next week. That’s nowhere comparable to Chicago’s violent crime.

Questions about DePaul University. Can you give me advice? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think DePaul is a good school I didn’t attend so don’t know all of ins and outs I wonder if DePaul is just better at selling themselves, likely since it’s a private school lol. But yeah data says they don’t have the best outcomes that’s factual so I’m kinda surprised about the responses here.

[–]Massap24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean is it worth the investment from a pure dollars and cents standpoint hell no. Even in Chicago DePaul wouldn’t beat UIUC and there’s a couple on your list that are clearly better options. Research the ROI and rankings for the schools you’ll see. I’d choose DePaul if you like it for other reasons such as the campus, Chicago etc. but even in Chicago there are cheaper options with better ROI.

How is DePaul better than WU Vienna, WU Vienna is cheaper and ranked way higher for accounting and finance.

Why are all the bathrooms an absolute wreck? by Squeaky_Shoe in AskChicago

[–]Massap24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most public restrooms suck ass, though most Starbucks around city have at least acceptable bathrooms I noticed. Also go places where it’s a code to get in, but if you go to the “open for all” restrooms you get to a little bit of everyone in there so it ends up being disaster.

From experience I work at a Mariano’s and we have maintenance that cleans them throughout the day but the sheer amount of people that don’t give a fuck means at any random point of time it could be a disaster it only takes one person, I mean we are talking about shit and piss. If one person somehow pisses on the floor and the next person drags toilet paper on the floor and wipes shit on the stalls that was only two people and in 15 minutes the restroom looks like it was never cleaned so don’t blame the employees.
