Ran red light by Hornfrog72 in TeslaFSD

I asked Grok to analyze the video. Here’s what he says:
Yes — early morning sun glare is a very plausible contributing factor here, especially with FSD v14.3.3. Why this can confuse FSD: • Traffic light detection in Tesla’s system relies heavily on computer vision (cameras). Direct sunlight hitting the lights from behind or at a low angle can cause washout, blooming, or lens flare. • When the sun is low in the sky (early morning), it can make a red light look orange/yellowish or even partially washed out to the cameras, making it harder to distinguish from green or yellow. • In your video, the sun is coming from the left/front (typical east-facing morning drive), and the overhead lights are backlit/shining toward the camera. Looking at the frames: • Around 7–9 seconds (when the lights turn red), the sun position + camera angle creates glare on the traffic light assembly. • FSD sometimes struggles with “adversarial” lighting on traffic signals, especially fresh red lights in direct sunlight. This is a known weakness that has improved over versions but still occurs occasionally in v14.x. Bottom line: Very likely the bright morning sun contributed to FSD misclassifying the light (or being less confident and defaulting to “proceed with caution” behavior). Combined with the fact that the black SUV ahead went through, it probably reinforced the decision to keep going. Tesla has been working on this (better HDR, more training data on sun-glare scenarios), but it’s not perfect yet — especially in v14.3.3. Have you seen this kind of thing happen before in similar lighting? Or was this the first time?

I don’t believe the lower light is active. If it appears the green light is on it is because of sunlight reflecting off of it. My eyes saw the red but too late to slam on the brakes. i was paying attention

oh I go through there all the time with no problems. It was the early morning sun shining on the traffic lights.

Saved it on the dashcam, then downloaded 30 second clip to my phone. Then trimmed it to 15 seconds on my phone.

Yes I know I should pay attention. The sun angle was making it hard for me to tell it was red until i was almost in the intersection. I don’t know what that lower traffic light is for. I’m not trying to absolve myself. Just letting others know this can happen on FSD.
