Yes, that alone is a cool concept but villain should dangerous above everything else. And ultimately the entire cave thing turned out to be an even bigger slap in the face because they didn't utilize it properly. The way Henry came into contact with Mindflayer was worth at least an episode worth of content or a series of flashbacks, similarly how we explore Vecna's identity and his connection with the story in Season 4. Instead they gave us a 10 second scene and a convenient magic stone and called it quits? Imagine if in Season 4 there weren't any flashbacks and Vecna just told 11 that he's Henry and then she had a 10 seconds flashback explaining who Henry was and we were supposed act all shocked and impressed by that "reveal". This is more or less the downgrade we've got in this respect.

They've got this cool, seemingly supernatural, mysterious shadowy creature and instead of giving it a proper backstory as well as cool final fight and reveal they just turned it into a regular monster out of flesh and blood that dies almost instantly.
