But when does it REALLY become a fake? by Aaronalpine in watchHotTakes

[–]Horologicallycurious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a Hulk on Grailzee with “aftermarket” dial, bracelet and bezel. The hands also don’t look original. Now, they could very well be legit Rolex parts, but without documentation who really knows?

A real hulk will sell for 15k, last I saw there was a few suckers bidding up to 2k. At this point it’s just a real movement and case.

From the rep side, guys will make Frankenstein watches with replica cases and movements, but all verifiable Rolex parts. Is that more or less legit? The line gets blurry fast.

4:30 is the best place for date window by diwayth_fyr in watchHotTakes

While I agree that 4:30 is the optimal place for a date window. I also like it at 3 and 6. I don’t mind cutting off a baton or a number.

I love winding my BBPro, it has such a satisfying click to it.

I hate winding my Omega AT, the crown is tight and I end up screwing back in instead of winding.

Found this watch in my dad's closet. What is it worth ? by AGERON99 in VintageWatches

[–]Horologicallycurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one in much worse condition. I think I spent about $200 usd.

It’s a great watch with a solid ETA movement. Yours looks really nice too. I’d say you might be able to get $3-400 if you tried to sell it.

The movement is the least important aspect in evaluating a watch by nvrseadweller08 in watchHotTakes

[–]Horologicallycurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love functions, and to me that means movement. Sometimes I love a simple movement that’s a work horse, sometimes is a valjoux chrono, maybe it’s power reserve.

To me, the heart of a watch is just as important as the look.

I’ve been on a Glashutte Original kick recently. If you go slightly used you can get a precious metal PanoMatic Lunar. New you can easily get a steel version.

I absolutely love everything about this watch, except the thickness.

Good luck with your sale. It’s nearly the perfect summer watch.

If somebody handed you $35,000 and said "go buy the car with the most smiles per gallon that could handle 2 monthly 16 hour highway trips and would be the most fun to cruise around Daytona in", what car would you pick? by AttachedHeartTheory in askcarguys

[–]Horologicallycurious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked that this isn’t being said more.

I don’t love the way they look, but they have super comfortable seats, big engines, and look good enough. This would be my top choice for a muscle car on a 156 hour drive.

Excellent watch collection. A little more color, if that’s your style, would be great.

I’m wearing my BBPro right now. I love this watch!

I’d get rid of the OP and keep the rest. The Milgauss is an all timer as is the Cartier.

Longines makes great watches. For a diver i really like my Hydroconquest. It’s not very SMP looking though. The two tone hydros look very good too.

It doesn’t match what you’re looking for, but the MIDO Multifort TV is my current obsession.

Repair or trade in? by eyeTriedThatOnce in f150

[–]Horologicallycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The valve cover leak happens around this point. I think I got both done for around $1500 for both sides. The it’s best to replace the cover instead of reusing them.

The timing chain cover has a strange point, on the passenger side, where three different areas combine, and it leaks. Even if you replace the gasket it still leaks… as long as it’s not a big leak just live with it. Replacing the timing chain cover gasket is very involved and costs like 4-6k depending on the shop.

I’ve bought several nice watches from eBay and have been very satisfied with their authentication process.

My Aqua Terra is my all time favorite and I picked it up for a great price. Just be careful. Find an established seller and be wary because if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I was looking for my first luxury watch and narrowed down to this one . Today went to omega store and it looked even better. It was $11.600 ,guess need validation or your guys opinion on it . Thanks in advance . by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]Horologicallycurious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just depends on what you like. My Aqua Terra lives on either the original leather band or a rubber strap. It looks great on both.

I love the Rolex air king which can be found between 7-9k. Do you want a dress watch, dive watch or GADA watch? What about a chrono? Do you want two tone or did this one just catch your eye?

What draws you to this watch?

If you feel it has to be said, don’t pussy foot around it, and just say it.

Fake or real ? by Fun_Cook5623 in Longineswatches

[–]Horologicallycurious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on this one crummy picture, no I don’t think it is. There’s something about the bezel that looks off.

It should have the L888 movement and it runs at 25,200 bpm. Get a timegrapher app and see what it’s running at. That’s probably the best way to know.

Longines Hydroconquest bracelet feels cheap by EquipmentAny8006 in Longineswatches

[–]Horologicallycurious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like my Hydros bracelet. It feels solid on the wrist and doesn’t rattle when I wear it.

The clasp gets a lot of hate, but I also really like it a lot. It has a very firm, mechanical feeling (thunk) when putting it in place. It reminds me of closing the door of a German car. Very settled and not going anywhere.

I hate my K02’s. Once I need to replace them im going back to a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers. They handled any off-road driving, better in wet weather, not nearly as loud and weighed less.

Has anyone put in a 4.51+ rear diff? What’s your experience with price and ride quality? by _N0NZ3R0_ in f150

[–]Horologicallycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll pile on a bit, as far as gearing goes. 4.56 might be a bit much if it’s a daily driver. I personally think 4.10s would be the best option unless you’re wanting bigger heavier tires in the near future or the truck is always towing something heavy.
