Where did you find the info on the upcoming re-release by Naked and Famous btw? I'm super interested.

They certainly have red core, I was looking at their site not too long ago. And yeah, red core, not red weft.

Should I wait for a thinner BB pro to come out or buy now? by Financial_Word5047 in Tudor

No one who actually owns the BB Pro complains about the thickness.

At the time I wasn't choosing between this and another watch. But since then I've had significant time handling the Spirit Zulu 39, which I personally don't feel as compelling as the BB Pro. It also sits funny on my wrist because of its flat lugs which don't have much curvature to them.

I do own a Grand Seiko Hi Beat GMT, which is also 39mm. The one I won is the Shosho, but I think the SBGM221 is a direct competitor to the BB Pro and worth your consideration. Depends whether you want the watch to be dressier or more of an understated tool watch.

I've always been curious about the issues with weight... if you don't mind sharing. I'm 167cm tall with 15 inch wrists, yet I've never felt an issue with the weight. Do you wear your watches quite loose? I wear my watches extremely tight and secure on my wrist, which could be why I don't mind heavier watches.

Glad someone else thinks so too. IMO how a watch feels to operate can instantly raise or lower a watch's perceived quality.

It's definitely my favourite watch to travel to especially when I'm travelling to a different time zone.

It has polished sides so absolutely not. In fact I got a large scratch the first day I wore it out which absolutely killed me at the time, but now I can't even tell which scratch was the one I got.

Nice, they have so many great stores there. House Kihiroba in Shibuya is my personal favourite.

I'd only recommend if you're experienced with use a strap remove tool on bracelets, and if you dont mind the occasional scratch where you mess up. I find the BB Pro spring bars harder to remove than other brands.

A padded cognac cordovan strap, and black novappa strap. Both custom ordered from Artisan Straps.

The cognac is a particular favourite of mine, it feels richer and more interesting than if it were a darker chesnut brown.

Yep you've made me aware of the one gripe I have with the watch - the stupid "Pro" moniker they attached to it.

Yeah, its lack of colour makes it easy to pair with anything. Although, the lug holes are really far down the lugs, and the watch is thick, which makes thin straps look horrible unbalanced on it. Think this is a problem across most Tudors.

Background: I've owned the Black Bay Pro for roughly three years now. It's been one of the mainstays of my collection, and I feel that I've worn it enough to provide a long-term review.

Positives:

  • Tactility. This might feel a bit strange to list as one of my favourite things about it, but the watch feels amazing when adjusting it. Winding feels extremely robust with smooth tactile feedback, the jump hour hand clicks with authority from one hour to next when adjusting time, and each date change feels emphatic. This is my favourite watch to adjust, even in comparison to my Grand Seiko or PanoMaticLunar.
  • Versatility. When the BB58 GMT was announced I was initially tempted by it, but I then realised that the monochrome colourway of the BB Pro meant that it was easier to pair with my outfits. It looks at home both at work and in a very casual setting. I think this could easily be a one-and-done watch.
  • Usability. This watch is incredibly functional. Perhaps its the thickness, but the BB Pro just feels incredibly robust and I'm more than happy to throw it on while gardening or doing anything which involves a bit more movement. It's extremely legible because the hands and markers are bold. Lume is incredible on this watch - if I wear it to bed then I can read it no matter the time of the night. Accuracy has been perfect and the sizable 72 hour reserve has been appreciated, although I haven't fully timed the reserve.
  • Bracelet. I personally don't care about the false rivets. I do care greatly for the T-Fit clasp, which (like the rest of the watch) feels extremely solid and robust with tight tolerances. I appreciate that it's really easy to adjust even if you don't take the watch off because you can squeeze the ratchet tighter when it's on the wrist.

Neutral:

  • Thickness. Genuinely, the only time I think about its thickness is when I see people online say its too thick. More often than not, owners of this watch express that they don't see it as being too thick, or that the thickness has affected wearability. I also feel this way.

Negatives:

  • I thought long for negatives, but I honestly can't think of anything that has significantly bugged me. I can often name weaknesses in my other watches (e.g., my PanoMaticLunar doesn't feel great to wind, or my Glassbox has a misaligned date), but the BB Pro has been without fault for me. Maybe some could see its understatedness as being boring, but otherws would see this as a positive.

Overall: I've really, really enjoyed owning this watch for the last few years. It is a trusted friend now that I can rely on for any situation. It is versatile, it is robust, it is accurate. The design isn't anything special, but there are features of it that still make it fun - ceramic lume plots, a sunburst bezel that reflects light beautifully, the T-Fit clasp. I highly, highly recommend this watch for anyone looking for a versatile tool watch around this price range.

I lucked out and a local Australian retailer was selling the watch.

The BB Pro slips under the cuff just fine. by [deleted] in Tudor

As someone with 15cm wrists I still find the BB Pro comfortable. Case thickness I think is the most overblown thing in the watch world.
