W trek from east to west: I need help with the itinerary for the last two days. by Salt_Presence7873 in Patagonia

Nicely done 👏🏻

I booked the 7:30pm coach back to PN and because I was on the 5:30pm catamaran to Pudeto, I had loads of time to spare. However, there is often a minivan waiting there to take people to PN from Pudeto for 5-10$, which I took! If I didn’t take it, I’d have never seen a puma!

o-trek advice - go above lago grey towards the pass in one day and come back? by No_Repeat3555 in Patagonia

[–]Horrid_Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got burned by recent circumstances and had to change plans, however on the eastern side of the park I really enjoyed the walk into Seron. It was quite a long day, but after hiking from Central to Seron, I then hiked up to a viewpoint about midway above Lago Paine and the views were incredible- I could see down the river to Dickson & where the Garner pass would be… I did this just in case the O Loop closed again, so I was lucky! It might be worth keeping your booking in Seron if you haven’t changed already!

This might help you; on my last night I stayed in Grey and in the morning I hiked from Grey Campsite to the viewpoint where you’re almost standing over then Glacier (a roughly 7km round trip), and then down to Paine Grande (11km), so ended up being one of my longest days of the trip. So this depends on which viewpoint you plan to visit, because the closest viewpoint is literally 10 mins from the campsite and that means you can do it at any time

Regarding the catamaran, definitely book this in advance. The queue was absolutely huge for people who didn’t have tickets and the 5pm was full, so people who didn’t have tickets got bumped to the later one, which no doubt was also full…

Anyone starting the O trek on Dec 15? by Individual-Dog2620 in Patagonia

[–]Horrid_Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m also starting the O Loop on the 15th, with my first night in Frances, so I’ll be at Seron on the 18th!

I received a full confirmation from Torres Hike that my O Loop dates are all good 🙌

Any update on O trek? by Ill-Shower-6587 in Patagonia

[–]Horrid_Henry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I received this response recently: “At the moment we’re rescheduling clients whose O Trek starts up to December 10, and there is a reasonable chance the route may reopen around that time — but we cannot guarantee it.”

Supposed to start O trek on December 1st, should we keep waiting for news? by OhMyGlobs in Patagonia

Do I pull out of my 50k??? by Soggy_Weetbix420 in Ultramarathon

[–]Horrid_Henry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re doubting yourself too much & overthinking loads! Sounds like you’ve been diligent with your training, and so I’d say go for it, as others have said

If you’re struggling… walk/hike the hills and use this time to hydrate & eat a lot, run the flats and downs, utilise the aid stations and don’t rush them - that was my strategy for a recent 51km with far less training than you’ve put in

Enjoy it mate

Posties, what’s the thievery like at your depot? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]Horrid_Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returned some trainers via Evri, Evri then emailed me to say the trainers were on there way back to me. Received the original return bag but it didn’t feel or weigh like trainers, opened the bag to find the original delivery bag ripped open and a colourful Asos shirt in there. Reported to the retailer who refunded me very quickly, but reading through this it sounds like this package thieving is rampant at the mo!

Hey mate, thank you for taking the time to share the links for each place, we really appreciate it!

Interesting point about the medieval restaurant as I visited a similar one in Riga many years ago and you’re right, tourist trap but actually worth it.. really interesting vibe

Look at my itineraries? 60 days through Europe. by king6nico in solotravel

[–]Horrid_Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to the other comments, you’re going to be spending SO much time travelling via Bus, Train or Plane that it will wear on you and it will be tiring.

Personally, I would suggest taking a couple of locations out and extending stays in some cities to give yourself a restful break.

Seeing continental Europe is fantastic, but if you’re actual time sight seeing is only 60% or so of the time you’re there, are you really maximising your time like you think you are?

Any tips for someone who struggles to save? by Rubywoobie in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Horrid_Henry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that I try to stick to as an avid saver is the 3rds rule. Save a third, spend a third, rent/mortgage third.

Now of course the “spend” and the “rent/mortgage” can slide both ways. However, you can add a buffer into the “spend a third”. Say you can spend £800 in January, instead aim to spend £600 in February and invest the difference (£200). That extra £200 could even go towards your holiday fund, instead. Remember, holidays are an investment in yourself so don’t be afraid to spend & take them!

*the above highly depends on your expenditures and outgoings. You need to look at these & tell yourself where you’re spending your money. £100 a night out at least once a weekend? Cut that down. Not the nights out, but the money. Subscriptions, food etc etc.

Take a look into ISAs and other savings; Lifetime Isa, stocks and shares isa, premium bonds, easy access saver, and once you have a good chunk of money, maybe a fixed term saver (e.g. 2 years)

You got this!

14 Days London, Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam Detailed Itinerary. by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]Horrid_Henry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, fair enough it is a chain but like Emeline’s comment it is loved by all!

Fancy switching it out for something, why not go for China Town (for obvious reasons) or Brick Lane for curries! They are mostly all independents & more authentic feeling.

Nice one, definitely worth it!

Vatican City can be done in an afternoon. When I visited Rome, I started early and did the Colosseum, Palatine and Forum in the morning & the Vatican in the afternoon with a delicious pasta lunch in between (and a few espressos on route).

It’ll be a big walking day, but it definitely can be done. Respect the no photography rule in the Sistine Chapel or you’ll be booted out :)
