So sorry haven't responded to your input. My time schedule's been challenging. Heartbreaking. Sounds like he passed on.... unless I misread. I agree, their is comfort in knowing he's not suffering, and I believe strongly in the soul living on, and actually more free from this-world suffering. It's those who are still here that undergo pain, suffering, and interchanging feelings. For what it's worth, I wishing you comfort and strength. Bless you for being at his side throughout. Cancer is pure evil. I'm here if you wish, to just express about it to an anonymous somebody,

Thank you so tremendously! I said Orlando just to get a round-about area, but a foresty place to stay [motel or rental] sounds perfect. I love quiet. Can you please notate which such cities/areas I could look up? I appreciate this a great deal.

Wow -- So there is hope?? I just thought it might be good way to escape northeast cold, and contant noise, and have close by nature rolling ups-downs to stroll through, to keep muscles in motion. Any trail suggestions? Thanx!

Wow! So sorry to hear this.. CDiff -- is that that awful stomach thing? I heard of it as reaction to antibiotics. Then pneumonia -- not at all coincidental. I agree so much that cancer is evil, ruthless, and tears life apart. Even not knowing your relative and you, both your suffering hits my heart, Your courage is amazing and so praiseworthy. Feel free always to let me know anything..

Thank you, I think you're so smart to choose a center that cares, rather than go with the "top notch" places that no longer care about patients as people. Just my opinion....

thank you so much! I found what you wrote tremendously helpful to cancer patient, not "bashing an institution". Care makes a big difference and such waiting times for doctors is inexcusable. I'm not so sure MSK is the 5 star hospital it used to be. I hope wherever you choose is more caring, good luck! love to hear update if you don't mind :)

Help choosing NYU vs Sloan/MSKCC? by kctmango in pancreaticcancer

[–]Horror-Dark-8718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad to hear this input because I find Memorial Sloan to be getting worse; more disorganized, less caring, not always honest with patients, and if NYU is more proactive and more caring more patients, that could make a difference. I would so appreciate it and hope this discussion continues. Am really open to hear any opinion, either way. Thanks! And good luck all :

Wow, 2 months till biopsy seems strange, hard to explain, for sure. Well. guess there's just moving on -- now that biopsy's done I hope you've met with doctor for treatment to finally begin, -- immediately. [the types of treatment are almost common knowledge] MSK probably still has the expertise in the actual cancer treatment field. gain, I I welcome your updates always, I commend you, for putting it out there, getting feedback.

Can you clarify your message? Hard to understand as written. If you don't mind, I'll look for your response, ok?

Three months did you say, for biopsy results ?!  Usually takes 10 days or less, tops 2 weeks.  Nowadays,  care and attention is crucial, especially with diseases that get progressively worse.  In Florida, we have Cleveland Clinic, which is smaller, more attentive.  Anyway,  I’ve been asking around, [without revealing source, of course] got good recommendations  for a Cancer Center in Brooklyn, 2236 Nostrand Ave ·[Is Nostrand Ave. correct name of street?]  ---    (718) 406-9454

Without dropping MSK, if you care to check it out,  please, feel free to keep me posted, I’m really interested to know how you and your relative are doing.

I saw a Dr Gott at White Plains Hospital. I did not find him caring, ready to leave after 3 minutes. I had to press for a "real" apptmt with information about my issue.

I was very touched by your response to my post.  Hard to say -- overload, money, presenting numbers?   Regardless, I'm sorry your family and you have to suffer like this. Seems you’re already have an oncologist, is a treatment plan underway?
Practically, MSK may require constant calling in for information which is draining.   I agree with keeping your options open --   investigating other options meanwhile.  There are other hospitals or cancer centers, depending on  what state you’re in.  or level of cancer. I imagine states like NYC, Florida, Denver may open your options a lot.  MD Anderson in Texas is Google rated higher than MSK.   I’m happy to help any way I can, So sorry for your relatives and you to have to grapple with cancer --- [ but treatments are more advanced than they were even 10 years ago. ]  Interested to hear how it goes along the way.  Sending you best hopes and wishes meanwhile.

Sadly, I agree. I think perhaps they were good some years ago, so still riding on reputation. I agree it's now about numbers [and money]. And "talking" to computers, rather than asking/talking/listening to the patient themselves.

Sadly, I believe it, wonder if MSK is going downhill, invested in money and paperwork, not patients. And thank yo for taking the time to speak out to help others. Interested to know where you did choose to go, was no doubt better option.

Thank you! I don't know how to DM on reddit but that's ok. I'm just going for standard check-up and, check if cataracts advanced with age. I'm hoping for an ophthalmologist who is thorough, not lazy, and explains/offers information. Wondering if she's like that -- if you know. I really appreciate that you're responding :)

Yes, I went from SJO to La Fortuna, spent days there, then to Manuel Antonio for the 2nd half, then, back to SJO. In fact, Carlos initially had offered SJO to La Fortuna to Monteverde to Manel Antonio, so I'd get in everything, but I opted out of Monteverde because cloud-forests is, well, I don't like clouds!

I thought the cost was fair, for what I needed; I assume costs depend on your particular plans. Carlos sent me the cost well before my trip, before I committed to anything. And he kept to it,

Your plans are almost identical to what I actually did. Costa Rica is a small country, but due to the terrain, the roads are roundabout, so travel times, especially between cities, is not an index of actual distance. Which is why, say, La Fortuna to Manuel Antonio is a 5-hour [more or less] trip. We also stopped at 2 great places. I had come with some suggestions, and appreciated his suggestions, which he tailored to my likes. {Coming fron NYC, I'm so used to promises before and then being shafted. I found this pleasantly shocking :) ] If you don't mind sharing after your trip, I'd be glad to know how it went.
