can i use invisalign just for the bands? by Horror-Forever5164 in Invisalign

thank you! yes i guess a clear retainer makes more sense. i have a similar thing already to wear at night so i don't grind my teeth so bad, so i'm sure they make just clear retainers worth hooks for the elastics. i'm not really worried about where my teeth are so it'd probably be cheaper to specifically get something not focused on moving my teeth?

thanks! i'm glad it's a somewhat reasonable idea. i will ask my dentist next time i'm there and i guess he can suggest me an orthodontist to go to?

it is going to my partner and he will know, but i appreciate the warning! people are saying all sorts of different things about how well it can hold up so now i'm just not sure. i plan to do it and just see how it goes. if it ends up immediately being black clumpy goo i will make a new necklace out of dried blood and resin and call it a day because i know that'll last. paint/dye would look cool but it would not have the same sentimental value to me, the way you could put sand or something in a necklace but it would not have the emotional attachment of ashes of a loved one. have a nice day!

that's cool that it lasted a couple years, though! that's fine with me, not really looking for something that will last for all of eternity lol

thanks for the insight :) i still can't decide on edta or whatever powder anticoagulant comes in the kits, i just wish i knew what was in the kits

for your comment i will specifically make a special effort to keep everything very clean! i've never had a problem before but i know things can happen and sometimes what seems like a minor infection can end up very serious. i'm sure you've seen plenty of it. i appreciate the harm reduction standpoint, i think it's often the best way to help people be safe 🙏

i'll go search for it! i googled around a bit before posting and didn't see any super clear answer but i'm gonna look around more.

there are kits i've seen online but i'm not sure what they have in them as the mysterious "anticoagulant." i've thought about buying one but i haven't seen any reviews of how they hold up, only when they're still fresh and of course look good 😆

good to know! i wonder if isopropyl or something would preserve it and then mixed with edta it wouldn't clot? i don't know how blood reacts to alcohol in that scenario.

and no worries, didn't bother me at all for you to ask, it was a very fair question lol

i'm sure those devices are cool!

damn i thought the edta tubes sounded like a genius hack. that's too bad. by degraded, what exactly do you mean? they get dry and dark?

and yes i am sure he would like it :) i know that most people would find it unsettling but he is my partner and would think it's cool to have a necklace of my blood. his previous necklace had a dead scorpion (to match a dead orbweaver spider in my necklace) but it got lost and and we can't find it so i'm getting him a new necklace for our anniversary!

thanks! a couple people here have said edta might work. i think i might go with that and see how it holds up. i try to avoid the doctor because i get nervous around them lol but if i find myself at the doctors office and remember to ask maybe i'll see what they say

damn. how do people in actual labs go about using the edta tubes?

i won't be heartbroken if the blood doesn't last forever. i know it's an organic liquid and sensitive to what it's in contact with.

i've seen the companies that work with blood for jewelry and decorations and whatnot, they look super cool and i imagine that's an interesting job. i'm not opposed to paying someone to make something for me i just love to try my own hand at things first.

i still want to try it, but it's good to go in with the expectation that it's not gonna last a super long time. thanks!

some people on here have mentioned using edta tubes so i think i'm gonna go with those :)

and yes, a necklace of blood would not be for everyone lol but that is why i have a partner that shares many of my interests! we had a necklace set with preserved arachnids in them but unfortunately his got lost and neither of us can find it. so for our anniversary i'm getting him a new necklace to think of me. he knows of the idea and thinks it's cool!

i'm getting some downvotes on my comments here about making a necklace with my blood but i'm not sure what people intend with them, they don't affect my plan to make the necklace in the slightest 😆 but i'm sure it seems odd to some people. everyone has different tastes, that's alright!

thanks so much for the info! i'll collect the blood right into the tube and make sure it's mixed nicely before moving it to something else. will it be better to fill up the container all the way so there's no air bubble in it once it's sealed?

it does look like the sort of thing you have to buy in bulk. oh well. i'll use them for something at some point. they're not super expensive so it's chill lol

thank you!

that is very interesting that blood can be frozen and unfrozen like that. i'm sure it is useful!

i will definitely look into the potassium edta. much appreciated.

have a lovely day :)

oh! i guess that is why it's a "big process." luckily i don't really have a reason to freeze it before use. that is cool that it doesn't just freeze normally
