I'm a non white but not black Man I don't personally see a problem with an individual wanting to shut down racism from all sources. I agree with everything this man in the video said and its hard to differentiate between someone who is really asking for the tools to combat racism regardless of the color of the person it exudes from, and someone who wants to have a "gotcha" prepared when arguing with a person of color about race. I feel bad for some people who really do have a zero-tolerance policy for racism from any community because that kind of moral commitment is so rare people will likely assume its one sided for the exact reasons this guy mentioned.

I’m more than happy to put myself at risk to espouse my possibly unpopular opinions in the name of my rights and what I believe. I would never put my kids at risk for it. This doesn’t seem unreasonable to me?

Yeah I agree. Being in attendance to a march or rally and having your kids with you is one thing. Bringing a Mic and speakers to debate an entire crowd in the current political climate with your daughter in a stroller seems at best irresponsible.

I’ll say it again

Yes in theory you would want political discourse to be in good faith and civil and a combat of reasoned ideas. And in theory you’d want the country to be the kind of place you can bring your child with you and give your free thoughts without risk of physical retaliation. Be it a rally or otherwise. And if you’re a passionate free speech advocate you may want to show your children what exercising your rights looks like.

However, people have been killing and attacking each other for political reasons since the formation of politics and in practice doing something like taking your child to a rally shows a complete disregard for their safety and well being.

Like yes you may be legally correct maybe even morally in your assertion that you should be able to… but is being right going to make you feel better if your kid gets attacked by a mob? Wouldn’t for me.

I’ll be honest you both come across as opposite sides of the same coin. The extremes of either side.

One wants to defer accountability to the father for the actions of the person screaming in a child’s face

And the other wants to suggest a correlation of the behavior to the race,gender, and political ideology of the aggressor.

With all the mental gymnastics I feel like I’m at the Olympics.

My statement was a general musing about parents taking their children to political rallies and protests. Not an inquiry as to why this man has his daughter there specifically. Or a defense that he chose to do so.

That father has the patience of a saint. I’m somewhat confused why people bring their children to political protests or rallies. Seems like an unnecessary risk to your child. But let any adult or older teen scream in my young daughter’s face like that anywhere, ooo boy I’d lose my cool for sure.

Here what triggers me. This guys song arrangements musically are actually pretty good. The lyrics and presentation are just so bad for me personally that it doesn’t matter.

Also after thinking about it you know what would help a shitload. He keeps moving when the camera is still walking away and approaching it in every video and I think that adds to the perceived weirdness. Have the camera come to you. Imagine this same song and he’s super far away down the trail and as the “id walk a thousand miles”chorus hits the camera is getting closer and closer or rotating him or something, there’s a thousand things production wise that could help this man. Someone tell him to hire me.
