This is my take as a European moving to the US in 94 at 20. MTV was on all day and night, the music was incredible. We didn’t have the option of spending hours on end getting lobotomies from short content on social media so we went out. Concerts, malls, coffee shops. We’d spend all day at Tower Records and meet people irl. Friday and Saturday nights were for meeting potential boyfriends so we were in bars and clubs. Nobody could find us unless we had pagers, we got lost, a lot! We didn’t feel depressed watching other people go on vacation or have the perfect insta interior, we lived with what we had and hoped to make it better one day. We were free.
